Hey everyone,

I am thinking about getting engaged and have been pricing diamonds for a while. I found a beautiful one and wanted to see if you all thought it was a good price.

-EGL Certified
-.9 Ct
-F color
-Eye clean SI2
-Medium Fluorescence
- Excellent/Ideal Cut

I have been to the jeweler twice now to compare it to others and it has came out on top. The price is $4950. Good deal?

With EGL, you will more likely be looking at a GIA equivalently graded .9 ct H I1. In that case, the price is terrible.

Here is an awesome eye clean GIA XXX 1.01 H I1 (pav/crown::41/34| table/depth: 57/61.9) for $4210 minus PS discount. http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.01-carat-h-color-i1-clarity-sku-284032

You can find even better deals on JA at .9 cts H I1, though getting I1 is rarely recommended. The one I listed is among the best I1's I've ever seen, but it might have durability issues w/ the feather on the girdle. Then again, it made it past cutting.

It's very hard to answer your question with out additional information...

Needed for a better answer:
- Diamond shape? Round?
- Diamond stats, dimensions, etc. What does the report say? Do you have a copy of the report?
- Any pictures?

Just my opinion:
You'd probably get a better price shopping online. You will really need to do some analysis to determine if this diamond is worth the price being paid. If you do a quick search on jamesallen.com you can see that there are diamonds $1000 less than the one you're about to purchase with the same stats you provided (there is also one that costs $5000 with the same stats) from better labs. There are tools you can use to analyze the cut of the diamond under "tools" on pricescope. In general, AGS and GIA certificates are the most accurate, and you should stick to those as a general rule. Other labs have looser stats, and an SI2 might not be an SI2 for GIA or AGS (same goes for color and cut).

On the price scope pricing guide abote a GIA .90 stone F color si2 is selling for $3,200....therefore a EGL stone will sell for $2,300 so no its a terrible deal.. sorry
