Hello, I am in need of suggestions for an e-ring. Very excited to propose to her. I have chosen a yellow gold setting.

I would like to spend $7000 max for diamond, and ideally a RB Hearts & Arrows Cut. I would prefer to not go lower than I colour and Si1 eye-clean, prederably VS2. Would you agree with these recommendations? I would like atleast a 1ct diamond, but the best bang for the buck would be ideal for a larger diamond under $7000.

- My favourite setting, however from browsing their site they appear to be more expensive for a H&A diamond.

It appears James Allan has better prices for H&A cut, and after talking to them, they told me they charge a $100 setting fee. If I buy the setting from BGD, do I have to give them the dimensions for the diamond so the proper head can be put on? Is there anything I should be concerned about, as I would like the diamond to be mounted the ideal height for beauty and light entering.

Thanks for wealth of gooknowledge. It is so much appreciated, been reading constantly on here for the last 2 months.

I like both the JA and WF stones, love the setting too!

Since you found your setting at Brian Gavin Diamonds, any chance you'd be interested in one of the BGD Signature Blue stones (with fluorescence)? They are quite beautiful and ideal-cut, though you'd have to check with Brian as to the degree they may/may not exhibit true H&A. Purchasing both the setting and diamond from the same vendor streamlines the process and often quite cost-effective.

There are several within your budget, but this 1.164ct I-SI1 BGD Signature Blue is my favorite, with very strong fluor - and a nice 6.75mm diameter! - wire price $7148 - http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/d...1.164-i-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104064812011

There is also this 1.051ct I-SI1 BGD Blue with medium fluor - wire price $7104 - http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/d...1.051-i-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104064812008

Thanks for your reply. I'm definitely prefer to get a diamond from BGD but they don't have any right now that seem to be of value.

I'm hesitant with their Blue series as its not often I read someone recommending diamonds with Fluorescence... Whereas James Allan or Whiteflash diamonds I posted had none and looks like to be better stones...

I am scared of buying the setting from BGD and sending it away and then worrying about if the diamond is mounted at the right height on the setting... Or is this something any Jeweler can adjust?

Don't be afraid of fluor - and all the BG Blue's have been inspected to make sure there are no ill effects from the fluor (milkiness or oiliness in sunlight). So no problems there. It's just a matter of whether or not you think it is a "cool effect". I have a D color with Strong Blue fluor, and I love it (see my avatar). The fluor only shows up under UV light anyway (direct sun or blacklight).

I spent the majority of the day reading again about flourescence and taking into account your recommendations. What I have a hard time justifying is going from a VS1 to Si1 with Flourescence for roughly the same price...

James Allen wants $100 to mount it, and shipping them the setting wont be very expensive... The extra lets say $150 still can't get something comparable... I mean if the BGD was significantly cheaper it would be more of a consideration...

Am I missing something?

With the BGD you are also paying for:
-More personalized (read: more attentive) service
-More generous upgrade/trade-in policies
-Generally more painstakingly precision-cut stones
-The ability to choose blindly from a given line without having to do any of your own homework re. cut quality
-More information on each stone

Whether or not those things are worth paying extra for is up to you.

that K i posted you had a VS1 clarity, very very nice, and in a round probably the highest clarity id be willing to pay for. And honestly there are articles on here or and other diamond sites that say a K in yellow gold is fine. plus its got that fluor so it will look whiter than other stones.

and that K is a 1.2 over the 1 cts you are looking at. That will be noticeably larger

Thanks for the recommendation... After looking at diamonds in the stores, both my eye and the girlfriend eyes can notice the tint of yellow. So we determined that I is the lowest. The platinum prongs make it noticeable.

Indeed the BG Blue line is now a consideration... I am going to talk to her more about it tomorrow.

She won't ever upgrade this Diamond, I have read amazing things about BG diamonds, but also have read the same great things about JA diamonds... Do you think they can pick up JA on the open market?

As many of you are diamond experts in my opinion would you really pay the extra premium for a diamond brand name? I'm sure James Allen can get the additional images needed to make sure their diamonds are just as good.
