Hi. After all the great advice I got when looking for the diamond I thought that I would ask another question.

Okay, so I got my beautiful square radiant cut diamond from Whiteflash. Now I am in major need of a setting. At first I thought I wanted a simple plat. wide setting with a couple of channel diamond and sapphires. However, once I started looking into trying to get the ring made I realized that it will be too much for my budget. So I started looking again and I went to a couple of mall stores. I brought my diamond and realized that I really liked it set in a plat. pave setting. But the one at the store was way to expensive.

So I was thinking how much do you all think a pave, plat. trellis setting would cost? Has anyone seen the ones they have on Mondera? Would it be better to just put it into a simple plain setting and upgrade later?

Any advice would be great.

Thank you so much, Justine

What is a trellis setting?!

I'm a fan of plat pave or similar looks myself.

I have attached one of the trellis settings that I found that I liked. See how the section that holds the diamond, I love the look. Thnak you so much for giving me your opinion. It really means a lot.

Thanks, Justine

Oh, one more question. Do you think that if I got this setting, the one pictured above, I could have a jeweler put in pave later one? Or is it possible to put little (like .02) ones down the sides where the trellis part is? Thanks again for all your help. Justine

How about the DVatche pave x-prong? It would look similar to the one you posted. Their website is dvatche.com.

That is actually one I was looking at I love the way it looks. I am considering that one. Have your every seen it in person? I am just wondering how it will look with a square radiant in it. Thanks

Yes, I have tried it on, it is very sparkly and comfortable. I love the delicate pave on it! It was with a round stone, but from what I have seen on their website it would look great with a square cut stone. Possibly even better than the round!

Hi Justine -

Where is the pictured ring from? I think it's exactly what my fiancee wants.

Thanks

Serendipitous

That ring is from bluenile.com. I love the way it looks also. Justine

Hi Everyone. Just one more question. I really like the Dvatche "Comfort fit X Prong Solitaire" 820
ring but I was wondering if that type of ring would show off my diamond the best. I heard that a skinny band will make the diamond look bigger, is this true? I have also been looking at mondera.com
Platinum Setting with Pave-Set Diamond. The price at mondera is a lot closer to what we are looking to spend. What do you all think? Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you all, Justine

You mentioned you had tried some stuff on. Try on some thicker width rings and see if you even like that look. The Mondera.Com pave setting is 4.7mm near the top which to me is very big. If I recall correctly, your princess is around 1ctw? That means its around 6mm or similar which means your stone will not protrude that much from the sides of the setting, I fear that this thick of a setting may overpower your size stone. I would only pair something like a 4.7mm setting with a 7.5-8mm stone or similar. My stone is 7.15mm and the setting is 2.6mm and I think it works perfectly, makes my center stone look like a 1.5ctw to people.

Yes a thinner setting will enhance the center diamond from a size perspective usually. I am not a thick setting person, so I tend towards things that tend to be more thin (e.g. 3mm max) but everyone's taste is different. This is why I say you should head back into some stores and try on more rings, with more specific goals in mind this time. Try on different widths, side stones, solitaires, pave etc if you have not already. Then you'll have a really good idea of what exactly you want to see on your finger, width, everything.

Also for around $1500 retail, I would look into custom making your ring...we paid $2k for our setting and it has pave all the way around and is a custom job. So for not much more (or less if you want pave only partway!), you get something that you *really* desire...just another thought!

Good luck!

Thank you Mara for your help. I have another question. I was on Pricescope last night reading over some of the post and I found a website that took me to a bunch of settings known as Flushfit. Now today, I can not remember what topic the website was under or what the site was called. I was interested in one of their settings but I can not find them on the internet. Has anyone ever heard of them or know of a website about them?

Also, a question about the previous response. Do you think the Dvatche setting, the one I have been looking at, will be to wide? Thank you for your help. I would like to get my ring before Thanksgiving so I am really down to the wire. Please help. Thank you Justine

Also, is it possible to get a trellis type center with a thinner band width? Thanks Justine

Anything is possible, you just have to find it.

Check out this website:

This may have been what you mean about FlushFit. Precision Set makes flush fitting engagement sets...very pretty. I saw their ad in a bridal mag and posted about them here a few weeks ago, but others have posted on them in the past too I think. They have beautiful items, some pave looking 'prong set' rings that are very similar to what we had made!

Thinner bands on some of them too.

Thank you. Would you go with trying to get a custom ring made from a vendor on the internet or in my local town?
