Please help with idealscope - too much leakage?

Hi everyone, how bad is the leakage at 6 o'clock in the idealscope below? Will it be noticeable in real life by a layman's eyes or is the light performance acceptable? Also, what is everyone's general thoughts on this particular diamond? Thanks in advance!

1.70ct
Color: E
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 62.1%
Table: 56%
Crown: 35.0 deg
Pavilion: 40.8 deg

~$14k

The #s check out, but the IS bugs me a little due to leakage in the middle/table. Possible to get an ASET for this diamond? Or a video?

it looks pretty good to me, but @rockysalamander should be able to give an expert opinion

you might want to put it on hold. diamonds tend to disappear after being posted on PS.

The price is nice for the size/color/clarity - assuming due to the strong fluorescence. It doesn't seem to be causing any haziness. Are you sure you want a diamond with strong fluor?

Thanks for your input. I deleted the link for now until I can get it on hold.

I'm at work, but I'll take a careful look in the next 3 hours unless another PSer beats me to it. :mrgreen2:

@rockysalamander would you mind chiming in with your expert opinion before I pull the trigger on this one?

GREAT selection. :appl:Chubby arrows, crisp color, nice clarity. There is one crystal near the table at 3:00. It is perfectly placed over an arrow, but at even 10x, its invisible. If they can't give you and Idealscope (IS) up front, ask them to shoot an IS once the diamond is in their office - but before it is set. Post that IS here. They will let you evaluate it and swap the diamond if it leaky.

Do you have the setting selected?

Thank you @rockysalamander , really appreciate your help! The idealscope they provided is just the one that I posted up top in my original post. Does the leakage at the bottom worry you at all? Also, are you saying that JA will do a second IS for me once the diamond is in their office before it is set?

I was planning to go with this setting: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...ife-edged-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-2426

Setting. Did your girl specifically ask for a knife edge? Are you trying to get close to a Tiffany setting? Some really find knife edge uncomfortable. They are kinda thick and pointy/sharp. But, you need to be true to what your girl likes.

Good Tiffany replica Vatche U113.

I persoanlly prefer the following few. They should be more comfortable and have more grace and curves.

Note...these and the one you selected may not allow a band to sit flush.

Sorry...missed that. We've had a run of odd IS images of late. I'd like other thought on what is happening at 6'oclock. @diamondseeker2006 @Karl_K @gm89uk @flyingpig @tyty333

Requesting thoughts on the IS at the top of this thread please!

wide ranging pavilion angles to get a good average while keeping some weight.
This results in distortion of the lowers that show up as odd shaped leakage.
Because the gia system is an averaged number based system as is the HCA and many vendor rating systems they are susceptible to this approach.
It looks like at least one big producer has decided to go this route because there are a bunch of them out there.

Thanks Karl. So are you saying this is not a good cut?

Ahh...so the mains have a large amount of variation such that the lower angled ones retain more weight. But, when averaged per GIA method...they averaged number looks better. So, it is fair to say this is showing leakage but the intensity of the leakage (how white/grey it looks) varies due to this variation.

Translation for the OP. This method of cutting to retain weight means you get less optical precision. It also looks like too much leakage for my taste. That main at 6'oclock is really off. I'd fear you really could see this leakage IRL (plus, they cheated to get you to 1.7 in weight).

Let's see if we can find better. Hard to know if these will be from the same cutter, you could inquire with JA if the source of these are the same as the one above. If so, they may have the same issue of pavilion variation. What is your color tolerance?

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...g-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3411875 {inclusion at 7'oclock will be covered with a prong}

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...g-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3429051 {beautiful clarity, love the small table @ 55%}

To move into a super-ideal and stay above a G, here are the options. You trade some weight for performance.
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3712977.htm {WF says this is eyeclean and the inclusions have no impact on the performance}

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3895062.htm {WF says this is eyeclean and the inclusions have no impact on the performance)

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3903344.htm {very safe and white}

If you can drop color, we can find more options. Have a look and give some feedback.=)2

It is a reasonably decently cut stone with reasonable craftmanship at a reasonable price, considering the carat weight, color and clarity.
A reasonable choice.

Reasonable. That's the best description for this stone.

I'm not a huge fan, at 1.7carat, The imperfections in a idealscope above would bother me. At 14K you can get a better cut G for example.

rockys G, VS1 is my favourite in terms of cut /price from those suggested. I can try have a look later as well but looks great.

Amazingly, this level of precission is not rare around here - there is even better ! ...

Thanks everyone for your help.
