Hi all,

First of all, thank you to everyone for sharing their expertise and opinions on this site -- I've learned so much from reading over the past few weeks and I'm very grateful!

I have approx 13.5k to spend on the three options below. The biggest problem I'm having is with respects to color. I'm colorblind and can't determine how much yellow is in a I or J --AND, if its significant enough that it should sway or effect my decision. I'm trying to decide between the following three options:

1. http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/1-45ct-h-si1-superior-round-hearts-and-arrows-diamond.html
---was told that the diamond is not quite eye clean -- essentially a hairline blemish can be seen under the right light

2. http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/1-68ct-j-vs1-superior-round-hearts-and-arrows-diamond.html
--- I like this diamond, but can't evaluate the color well and J kind of scares me (I realize that the best option would be to ask my gf but at this point, it's a bit too late and would ruin the surprise. I'm just curious if you think she / your average diamond shopper would be able to pick up on the yellow coloring?)

3. http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/1-53ct-i-si1-premium-round-ideal-cut-diamond.html
-- the only visible inclusion to the eye is on the side and the prong could cover it

I have attached the setting in case that influences anyone's thoughts.

I'm open to other suggestions but need to make the final decision by EOD tomorrow to adhere to my timeframe. It also needs to come from GOG as I've already picked out the setting.

Thoughts on the three options? Other options?

Thank you so much in advance!

Hi all -- posting a few stats to help guide your feedback. Thanks!

#3. HCA 1.7

Honestly, any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

Have you taken your girlfriend shopping at all? Had she mentioned when she can sense the color/when it is undesirable to her? If not I would stay at H or better. Not a diamond expert but I just bought an H and am happy with color (in a halo). In a solitare setting you have to be a little more cautious as the whole stone will be visible.

I agree although the stones are gorgous at GOG

Does she have a Pinterst account?

Have you gone on their to see what she has pinned? It's a public board, so it's not snooping.

Have you talked to her about what is important to her? Is it size or quality?

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses.

Unfortunately, she doesn't have a pinterest account. In terms of quality vs quantity, that's the question I'm struggling with. Because, option 2, the 1.68 J VS1 seems to be better quality than the other options -- just a different color? Correct?

I guess my questions is twofold --
1. Can most ppl tell the difference between H and J or H and I in terms of color.

2. Does a VS1 J compensate for a VS1 H or VS1 I?

Thoughts?

What do you mean compensate? And are you set on GOG as your vendor? I know you said the setting was from them, but they can order the setting and send it to your stone vendor to set for you. If you do it this way you incurr no costs for setting fees as the stone vendor should do it for free.

And why do you think the J is better quality? What is you definition of quality. The J does have a better IS than the other two. The I is not a stone I would consider, personally. The IS for it isn't in the ballpark of what I would want. But if you just mean because of the VS1... no the VS1 by itself doesn't = better quality.

Also, if you ARE set using GOG. I would have them source a diamond for you. Tell them you don't need the Hearts and Arrows. That you want a GIA triple excellent 1.5 or larger carat H color stone. Completely eyeclean Si1 or better clarity. And with a great idealscope image. (You can just send them that in an email). And tell them your 'not to exceed' budget.

Because you are paying for GOG Customer service, you might as well get it. :wavey:

You are not stuck with what they have in stock. See what they can get you before the EOD tomorrow.

Compensate was probably the wrong word -- maybe, "outweigh"

I think the J is better quality based off the IS and clarity. But, curious how much you all think the J coloring diminishes the quality of the diamond.

I agree with you, I've basically come down to a 1.5ish H Si1 or VS2 vs the 1.68 J VS1. I'm fairly set on GOG, simply because of the timing. I need to have the ring ordered by EOD tomorrow so I can propose on time. I imagine it would take a few extra days for them to source a diamond or for them to send the setting to a different stone vendor...but maybe I'm wrong?
