Well, this is my first post on this form. Hopefully many to come. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

I have been looking at some stones and ran into this one. Here are the specs:

GIA
Carat Weight - 0.5
Cut: Ideal
Color: F
Clarity: SI2
Debt: 60.3%
TAble: 56%
Sym: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Clarity Characteristics: Crystal
Griddle: Thin to Medium, Faceted
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.14 x 5.17 x 3.11 mm
Crown Angle: 34
Pavilion Angle: 40.6

Price: 1,070

I ran the Holloway Cut Advisor and it scored 0.5 and Excellent in all factors.

I don''t know much about diamonds but based on my readings for the last week or so, this looks like a decent price for a good quality.

What do you guys think? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot

Welcome!

You can use the Pricescope Your Diamond tool above to check your pricing. This diamond looks like a potential winner, to confirm it you could ask the vendor for an Idealscope Image if you wish. Also check that it is eyeclean being an SI2, it is likely ok but check anyway

If I''m not mistaken the HCA should be between 1 and 2. You might want to check that out.

I am really getting overwhelmmed with all the information that is out here.
Just when I thought that I had found what I wanted this HCA thing popped out?

If 0.5 is not good, then why does it rate it excellent? I read posts about this and it just confuses me.

I went ahead found another stone and here are the specs:

GIA
Carat Weight - 0.52
Cut: Ideal
Color: H
Clarity: SI2
Debt: 61.3%
TAble: 56%
Sym: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Clarity Characteristics: Cloud, Feather
Griddle: Thin to Medium
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.18 x 5.22 x 3.19 mm
Crown Angle: 34.5
Pavilion Angle: 40.8

Price: 1,100

The HCA score is 1.2 (Excellent)

Light Return - Excellent
Fire - Excellent
Scintillation-Excellent
Spread - Very Good

The main difference besides the HCA score is the color, this one is H, while the first one was F. Is there going to be much difference between the two?

Also, the latter does not have faceted girdles.

Please help, I absolutely must buy something by tomorrow. Should I go with the second one?

thanks

See if this thread will help you regarding HCA scores.

Regarding your choices, I would ask for Idealscope images to make the final selection as these are 2 potentially great choices. I also think this quote of JQ's says it well from the thread - "Most people who find PS are using the HCA just to see if a diamond will be beautiful. A score <2.0 predicts it to be in the top 5% of known performers. After that there are too many potential measurement variances and unknowns to split hairs without further information; Direct and personal assessment of that particular diamond."

It depends on individual colour perception, in my opinion most people would not see a difference even at direct comparison between an F and an H, although there are exceptions to this. Both grades are most respectable! It also boils down to if these diamonds are eyeclean ( likely in this size) but check with the vendor to make sure.

I see Garry is about, maybe he will chime in for you!

Thank you

Poncho,

Having meandered through the day, I am more mindul of how Garry hooks up the second part of the thread that Lorelei points to...with the beginning of the thread.

Looking further, I ran across this one, that you may find adds perspective, as well.
