A friend left me a Chanel dress to sell; in her words, this is the original. But I don’t have a purchase receipt, where can I find out if it’s original? I don't want to deceive buyers. I will be glad to any advice

Does anyone know if The Real Real authenticates?

This is on their website. Seems like there should also be an article there as well.

I don't think it's real, based on the label alone. In addition to the uneven spacing, the thread quality and stitch quality of the letters aren't consistent with Chanel labels. You can see the black fabric showing through the vertical aspects of the letters, due to widely spaced stitches. The horizontal aspects of the letters don't show that effect, meaning it can't be a design choice. And those messed-up curves on the letter "C" and the circles--yikes! And although it could just be photographic angle, the label doesn't look fully rectangular--the left side is slanted, and the "C" is lower than the "L".

High-end brands don't skimp on anything. You should see thick, luxurious, almost shiny threads stitched closely with a consistent pattern, on a label. I also see asymmetry on the armhole stitching and the hem of the dress itself. I'd bet a nice steak dinner that this is a fake.

Nothing I said is meant to imply that your friend has any awareness of the dress's origin, by the way. I just happen to have a little sewing background, a love for nice clothes and a few OCD-lite tendencies (like paying too much attention to detail).

"left you a dress to sell"????
Huh?

Just give it back, and tell your friend you don't want to sell it.
You don't even have to offer an explanation, besides, doing so projects weakness and reenforces the inequality of the relationship.
Just saying no with no explanation demonstrates self esteem.

Doing this would not be rude.
She was the rude one for dumping this on you.
If (s)he asks why you don't want to do her dirty deed just say, "It's just something I don't want to do." and leave it at that.

Please pay more attention to yourself instead of letting others use you to do things they, and you, don't want to do.

Why can't your friend sell it herself?

thanks a lot for the advice! I also thought it was a copy. she needs money and is not listed on ebay. .I found such a dress on ebay. What's different about the fabric tag is the inscription. it's wider. the dress is very similar. It's probably a good copy. Thanks everybody!

I offered her a paid check, but she didn’t want it. it costs $30. I told her about the dress. that this is not an original and as an original I will not sell it. here's another photo. IMG_3217.jpeg
