Hello...

Need some helpful advice here... I'm pretty bummed out.

My issue - The engagement ring(custom) I gave to my fiance is a 7 and it turns out that her size on the left hand is a 5. My jeweler is telling me that the ring cannot be resized and will need to be rebuilt at a cost of $1.5k. Is this right? Should I get a second opinion on whether or not it can be resized? Should I just pony up the 1.5k and live with it?

Please keep in mind the ring design is complex. It has pave stones all around all three sides of the band 3/4 of the way down and it has custom engraving on the bottom. The metal is platinum.

Thanks,
Chris

You can always get a second opinion, but I can tell you that more likely than not (based on your description of the ring) you''re gonna have to suck it up and pay the $1.5K. The reason is that to downsize a ring 2 full sizes requires the jeweler to take out all the pave, size down and reshape the metal into a round shape again, and then reset all the diamonds.

I had this happen with my ring settings (both my e-ring and w-band) when my rings had to be sized down. I was told had my diamonds not be removed, that they would pop out and even crack! (I have baguettes) The jeweler was able to do the whole process in one day (although he spent THE WHOLE DAY doing it!!).

So, getting a second opinion is never a bad thing, but I''m guessing you''ll have to shell out the money. Sorry.

Thanks for the help.

After thinking it over we decided to just go ahead and get it redone. They''re going to save the head and redo the band. It just seemed like the best choice from very limited options. It''s still a bummer but.. that''s life.

Why did you not bother to find her ring size before ordering such a complex designed ring?
