Hello, I need your opinions about this diamond from one of Pricescope vendors. Here's the stat from EGL report.

Carat: 2.17
Propotion:
Total Depth: 62.3%
Table Width: 57%
Crown Height: 15%
Pavillion Depth: 44%
Girdel Thickness: Thin Faceted

Finish:
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Excellent
Culet: None

Clarity Grade: VS1
Graining: NIL
Color Grade: H
Fluoresence: None

Comments:
*Excellent Ideal Cut. The quality of the cut of this diamond achieves Excellent in symmetry and propotions, thus obtaining the optimal dispersion of light and brilliance.

However, the diamond scores only 4.5 on HCA scale which is in conflict with comments stated in the EGL report above. What do you guys think? I'm aware that EGL is more linient in their grading than AGS and GIA but can it possibly be this bad when their ideal cut grading only gets fair rating from HCA? If this is the case, I would have to stick with GIA & AGS. Thank you in advance for any advice.

It should be noted that this is an EGL Israel, not EGL USA, cert.

I would not buy a stone that scores that low on the HCA. Nor would I buy a stone with an EGL Israel cert unless I was willing to subtract a couple of color and clarity grades in my mental estimation of what I was buying.

I encourage you to go with GIA or AGS certs as you suggested.

2.03 J SI2 for $14632

2.14 I SI2 for $15610

2.19 I SI1 for $16320

Etc., etc.

Good luck!

Welcome Ken!

Ditto PG, this diamond has crown and pavilion angles which can cause the diamond to leak light and not perform well, I would keep looking.

Sorry, I would pass - I wouldn''t go near an EGL Israel certed stone, and I am not liking the numbers either.

We can suggest some other lovely stones if you like?

Just to agree with the other posters here: the quality of the CUT (including proportions) is KEY to sparkle. Proportions is different to polish/symmetry. GIA grades cut quality based on proportions and AGS grades cut quality based on actual light performace - both these labs are much much stricter/more reliable than EGL.
Hence, diamonds with the highest grades for cut quality from GIA or AGS visibly outperform the EGL diamond that you have listed.

I like to use pictures where possible as they illustrate this better in the absence of actually seeing the different diamonds side by side.
The picture attached (courtsey of Gary Holloway) shows how a top mosr cut compares to average commerical quality in cut.
The stone on the left is actually smaller carat weight than the one on the right, but it looks larger because it has the topmost cut quality and hence is returning light from edge-to-edge.

Thank you very much everyone for very informative input - I will keep looking. I''m glad that I''ve found Pricescope. It''s a difficult and time consuming process to make decision on a diamond but when I think about who I''m buying diamond for, I can''t just settle for average.
