Hi everyone!,

I need help on making decision between the these two stone. Please help me make decision as to which one should I pick. I want to pick good diamond for my gf. Both stone are from bluenile

Total Visual Performance 1.5 - Excellent
within FIC range
0.9ct
price total: 2926
http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-good-cut-i-color-si2-clarity_LD02400716

and

Total Visual Performance 4.3 - Good - Only if price is your main criterion
0.95ct.
total: 2703
http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-good-cut-j-color-si2-clarity_LD02457346

What bother me is the visual performance issue (1.5 and 4.3). My main question it is a good to get little small this case 0.9 over 0.95 and pay 200 or should I pick 0.95.

Both of the stone are eye clean.

Please let

My first concern would be whether or not they are eyeclean. Many- quite even a majority of SI2 stones are not eyeclean- and since BN is a dropshipper- they cannot confirm if the stone is eyeclean since it's essentially in a virtual inventory and they do not have the stone in front of them to look at. I would be concerned that buying sight unseen- and without the vendor having the ability to examine the stone for you- that you are going to have noticable inclusions.

No expert but a few red flags.

1) They both get "Good" GIA cut ratings. That is a poor rating. The 0.9 Ct is the deepest stone I have ever seen, and my understanding is the lack of symmetry in each stone will mitigate the validity of the HCA score.

If you are going to be bargain hunting, I would stick with a place where you can see pictures, and you can get ASET/Idealscope images.

How about this stone a stone like this. 6mm (which is actually larger than the 0.9ct you posted), and is an AGS000 which is as good of a cut as you can get.

While the .9 gets a "good" rating- it does get a 1.5 on the HCA when you run the numbers.

I do really like the stone you posted from JA though- as long as it's eyclean I think its a beauty.

Thank for reply. I ask BN rep to inspect the two stone and verify that both are eyeclean. regarding the http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1413620.asp It is AGS cert. I would prefer GIA cert. by the way, this is my first time buying diamond online. I talk to BN rep they told me that i can always return it for any reason. by any chance anyone experience difficulty.

thanks

Amys. I think the 0.9 could be a winner, but I would want to see an ASET/IS to confirm the light performance before pulling the trigger, (as well as a regular pictures to confirm eye cleanliness).

vpham. I bought a BlueNile Stone with a AGS VG rating. However, I bought it through IDJewlery. I would recommend the same for you if you are going to peruse those 2 stones. Yekutial at IDJewlery, can get them from the BN supplier for you, beat the BN price, and provide you with pictures and ASET/IdealScope Images. So its a win win all around. He can do the same for just about any stone you find online.

I would reevaluate that decision. AGS is >= to GIA in the opinion of many on this site.

You want to stay away from the other certs though (EGL, IGI, HRD etc).

AGS lab is as highly regarded as GIA if not more so.... you want to avoid the others- buy GIA or AGS!

I do not think the 0.9 stone is a winner...it has 65% depth! It faces smaller than a 0.9 carat should. (smaller diameter). I would get a smaller well cut stone in your budget. if you post your budget/specs, we can find some candidates for you.

The JA stone is a nice option. I think you have to be careful about compromising too much to get as close to 1ct.

Post your budget and posters can offer links to great stones.

I was thinking of spending around 3k for the stone and I kinda want to have bigger size around .9ct and up. Regarding IDJewlery, do they have actual store that I can come and look at it ( i live in San jose California). By the way what is the website for IDJewlery.

thanks

IDJ has a store in the diamond district in NYC

I agree! That .9 stone is BAD!!! If you want a 6mm stone, please look at well cut .80 diamonds!

You need to start over because neither of those stones is worth considering. I would also suggest vendors who can look at the stones AND show you pictures: James Allen, WhiteFlash, Good Old Gold, Brian Gavin. Only look at GIA excellent cut stones (or AGS Ideal Cut).

Thanks for all suggestion. I guess I need to do more homework.

The width is on the Grading Certificate in the top left under "Measurements"

My opinion was that Carat is not important, and the width is the bigger determinate of size for a Round diamond. As an example, a diamond with more weight is inferior in size to a lighter but wider diamond.
