Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice. I am beginning the process of purchasing an engagement ring and I am not sure if I am getting a good deal. I realize that this forum probably receives hundreds (if not thousands) of requests like this, but after reviewing the site I figured I would give it a shot and hope for some good info.

After visiting the jeweler I selected a princess cut 6.22x5.97x4.05mm 1.24 carat diamond. The following is a list of the GIA criteria:
Depth 67.8%
Table 78%
Girdle Thick to Very Thick
Culet None
Polish Good
Symetry Very Good
Clarity VS1
Color Grade G
Flouresence None

The jeweler was quoted me a price of $7700 for this diamond. To the laymen (me) the diamond is gorgeous, but given the significant $$$ investment I am a bit concerned about the color grade (G) as it is not in the colorless range and the polish as it is only rated as "good".

Does this appear to be a fair deal? And should I be concerned with any of the GIA results (specifically color and polish)?

Thanks Again!

This process is pretty stressful and I just want to do the right thing.

i think ''g'' color stones are a great bargain. still in the colorless range, yet not high priced. you are doing well with the ''g''.

the table is on the ''big'' side...if you were buying site unseen, i would probably be more cautious but since you have seen it and liked it, nothing else really matters!
the price is quite reasonable. this one http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD00368473&filter_id=0 from bn is a bit more but it comes with the new ags grading report.

Thanks for the responses. I am glad to hear that nobody thinks I am getting a horrible deal. I am still wondering about the Polish rating of "Good". Does this effect any of the visual characteristics? Obviously, I want the ring to have the "wow" factor and sparkle as much as possible.

Thanks Again -

good polish is fine.
