Given the following stones, both of which are round brilliant 1.4ctw, which do you think will look and perform better?

1) AGS certified, Ideal AGS000, G VS2, Table 54%, Depth 62.9%, Crown angle 35.4, Pavillion angle 40.5

or

2) GIA certified, Excellent cut, D VS2, Table 56%, Depth 62.2%, Crown angle 34.5, Pavilion angle 40.8, Pol/Sym - VG/EX

The AGS stone is about $2000 cheaper. I''m not really concerned about the lower color grade which is probably why it''s cheaper. But does that table look small and the depth a little deep to you? Given the AGS000, I would assume it performs well. Or have you seen some AGS000''s that don''t perform that well?

Thank you in advance for your help. I want to buy a stone in the next couple days but I want to be absolutely sure before I pull the trigger on an $11k - $13k purchase!!!

Nice options. Too bad you can''t see them together (can you?).

Interestingly, the GIA seems more classic AGS0 proportions, dead center in the candidacy for that grade. But, the new AGS ranges allow that option to be a near FIC.

Perhaps diamondphiles will chime in, too. I might be inclined to prefer the AGS option, but I''d pay a modest premium to see them together and get help choosing that way. Could you have them both go to an appraiser you can trust? And maybe be there, too, to see them with your appraiser?

I''d want to see them both too. As RG pointed out, the first could be very firey, while the second would be more of a mix of white light and fire. Do you have a preference on that? Also, the first would probably face up a bit smaller at that depth, would that bother you? Some people want to eek out every bit of size (diameter) they can, so it''s a consideration if so.

I''d love to see them side by side but the online vendor I''m looking at doesn''t have them in-house. I can take each of them separately to an appraiser and then return them, which is what I might do. But if I love the first one I get and it appraises well, I''d be inclined to keep it. That''s why I''d love to just pick one. I appreciate your input, very helpful. I take it that, given the choice, RG might take a chance on the AGS. I probably wouldn''t go wrong with either but if you or others had an opinion, sight unseen, between the 2 stones based on numbers which would you go with? I know a lot of it is personal preference, as Ellen alluded to, but I appreciate and value YOUR personal opinions too since you all seem very knowledgeable and are diamond enthusiasts. Thanks again!!

it is deeper bc of the combinations.

is it an AGS light performance ideal?

not much to go on for actually picking between one or the other.

Yes, it is an AGS000

I know people in the past have had 2 different stones sent to an appraisor, why don''t you ask the vendor if that''s possible?

Julie read you on that the first time. Read this in FAQs. AGS000 describes at least 2 different sets of options, but only the more recent describe what they are calling AGS0 for light performance, vs cut parameters. The terms "lght performance," still bear some question, but...I understand new is better than old.

I think if it is AGS000, and has the named proportions, though, it must be new. But, worth checking.

Thank you for the clarification. Just read that FAQ thread. Yes, it is a new DQD and it is a light performance ideal 000.

To clarify, I mean at the same time!
