Hello and thanks for all who are willing to help me with my upcoming purchase. I recently found out about this website through a friend who highly recommends coming here and speaking to some of the experts and people who live and breathe diamonds. He said that he came on this website before he made a large diamond purchase and it was the best decision he ever made. So here we go.

I am currently looking to purchase a diamond / diamond engagement ring for my soon to be fiance. I have done extensive research and have went to the smallest and largest retailers in person & online. I have never purchased a large diamond of high quality so this has been a learning process for me. I found that for some reason the diamonds at Tiffanys shine more than any other retail spot that i went to. Is it me or is this normal. I have found Tiffanys is much more expensive than everyone. Posted below is what im looking for and a few places that i have found but need some advice on this entire deal.

I am looking for the following

1.5 ct -1.75 ct , i would prefer a GIA stone , and i would also prefer F-G color and VS1-VS2 color and i want IDEAL, SUPER IDEAL, A CUT ABOVE, HEARTS & ARROWS (BASICALLY TOP NOTCH CUT DIAMOND OF HIGH QUALITY)

Im looking to spend $13,000- $15,000 , possibly a bit more if need be.

Am i in the correct price range for the quality of stone i am looking for? Im thinking i could be in the 1.5 range but probably would need to spend more for 1.75. I just need some guidance on what price range to really be looking for on a stone of this quality.

The next question. I have no idea who i should go to and purchase a stone like this from . I have read many articles of James Allen, Blue Nile, Brian Gavin, Whiteflash etc. Can i please get some advice on who and why i should purchase a stone from . Just like most people i am trying to get the biggest, best quality stone for my money. At this moment i just need some feedback from you diamond experts and junkies (no offense, just joking).

I really appreciate any & all help. This is my first ever large / quality diamond purchase and i want this to be a good experience and hope to purchase many more quality diamonds in my lifetime. I know that i can look up all the diamond info i want online and when it comes down to it i am still a rookie and that this diamond buying stuff is alot more than just looking up some diamond facts and walking into a retailer or clicking some buttons online.

Thanks for your time, i truely appreciate it.

where else have you looked at diamonds? do you know anything about the diamonds you were looking at (as far as cut?) also keep in mind that lighting has a huge effect on how diamonds sparkle.

is that your budget for the diamond only or diamond and setting? what type of setting are you looking for? I don't think you can get a branded H&A stone in your budget at that color/clarity/size combo but you should be able to get an excellent cut non H&A diamond.

I know a little about some of the diamonds that i were looking it. I am a novice at this , i know the basics of the 4 C's , i know the cut is actually the most important aspect of the shine but i am not familiar if i should just be looking for H&A / IDEAL on grading certificate or if i need to know the tables, etc etc. Any and all information will help. I have a pen and pad and will definitely be taking notes.

The $15K would be my budget for the diamond, 1.75 is probably a dream but is 1.5 possible in the $15k ballpark ?

I just want to make sure im buying a TOP QUALITY / CUT Diamond , i understand you get what you pay for so im not going to be cheap about this but i also do not want to get hosed. Do you recommend anyone to work with that has a great reputation and would work with me to get me a TOP QUALITY / CUT , EYE CLEAN diamond and not take advantage of me. Thanks for your time , this means a lot to me and whoever helps me out. I am so excited to get engaged but i do not want to rush this. Thanks again

James Allen has lower prices than some other vendors because they do not have all of the diamonds and images in-house but they can provide a gemologist review of up to 3 diamonds.

these three look promising

1.42 G VS1 pricescope wire price $13,829 (will leave you some $$ for the setting)

1.43 F VS2 pricescope wire price $14,608

Thanks for the choices. How would you rate James Allen compared to Brian Gavin ?? From what i am gathering James Allen has a excellent reputation but many of the diamond cuts are not as high of quality and up to the standares of many master cutters. Does this statement hold true. What is your opinion on purchasing a diamond. Would you look to James Allen and try to save a few bucks or look to the quality of some of the well known guys who cut the very best ? Just trying to get a feel for exactly what im dealing with and if its worth the extra money , thanks

both vendors have a different approach. Brian Gavin specializes in ideal cut H&A stones that are in-house and have all of the images/etc available. It really depends if you want a H&A stone and a bit easier time shopping or if you want to save some money with a non-H&A.

Ok, i think im starting to understand a bit more. Please give me a little info if possible on the following. True H&A stones are going to be AGS 000 ????? From what im reading GIA reports do not give enough info on the other 3 aspects that will determine the True Hearts & Arrow ? Is James Allen Hearts & Arrow the same Quality as Brian Gavins Hearts and Arrow. I am a bit confused when it comes to this because i have read that AGS is known to be looser than GIA but then now im reading AGS 000 is the best and most true hearts & arrow diamond out and are better than GIA ?? This is very very difficult to understand, lol . Thanks so much for your time.

I think i will be leaning towards the perfectly cut diamond all the way around. I just would like to understand it all etc. Thanks

you can have AGS ideal cut without H&A. H&A is not graded by GIA or AGS but by the vendors-who may have different standards for what constitutes a H&A diamond.

also, yes, AGS ideal cut is a tighter set of angles than GIA Excellent cut but when you are shopping with vendors who provide images/etc it becomes a moot point. AGS should be on par with GIA for color/clarity but how they grade cut is different.

So with this being said is one vendors hearts & arrow better than the other ?? What is the most important factors i need to look for?
If im going to get a hearts and arrow diamond i want to make sure its AGS 000 ??

Here is a great stone with a lifetime guarantee. Even though it is an SI1, it is eyeclean and you can hide the inclusion with the setting:

OK sounds good! we are here to help :wavey:

Yes, the GOG stone is hearts and arrows triple EX. I'm sure Jonathan would make you a video if you ask.

Places to find true H&A best of the best cut diamonds:
Whiteflash
BGD
Crafted by Infinity (highperformancediamonds.com)
Good Old Gold Signature

"Looser" set of qualifications for H&A but may find a nice stone:
James Allen

AGS 000 does not equal H&A. H&A is something you find on top of AGS 000. If you value size over all, it may work best for you to get an AGS 000 that is near H&A.

Also consider BGD blues that are AGS 000 w/ fluorescence and may be near H&A or H&A but at a huge discount.
