hi all, you guys were invaluable during my search for a ring and this is what i ended up with via IDJ:

now it's time to find the band. we have an appointment with Yekutiel to try some on.

right off the bat we're leaning towards the matching Vatche band:

certainly open to advice and insight - esp. as it relates to how much of a discount i should even try for. looks like WF sells it for ~$1300.

p.s. i don't even know where to START on a ring for myself. i don't care much at all about it and just want to get something plain, classic and affordable.
 
Your ring is beautiful. I would go for the matching band since there is one offered, but if you can, and they make one, go for an eternity style. If the ring spins (and it will), it will always look perfect.
 
And my advice is buy what you love. Don’t compromise or otherwise you won’t love what you have and will be a bit sad before eventually deciding to go with what you loved all along. And you’ll be out of pocket $$ trying to resell your “not so fabulous but cheaper” ring.
 
Another thing to keep in mind: if you are planning on having kids together, full eternity band will not be resizeable. Of course, that means that you have a chance (if funds allow) for a push present.

The one you guys are looking at should allow for some limited resizing if and when needed.

i will see if they have eternity style but i don't think they do...maybe?
 
:razz:I love the matching band with it, and for yourself I would suggest looking at ewedding bands for an affordable band. They have a nice selection of good quality men's bands. They also do free engraving and have a great return policy.
 
i will take a look. and i, too, like the matching band but it doesn't appear it comes in eternity.

also a bit more than i was hoping to spend...to be honest.

visiting Yekutiel tomorrow to try some stuff on.

anyone been there in-person? how is it?
 
I kind of like the matching band. I think it will look nice with the oval center stone. Not sure I would do eternity style. It ups the price for diamonds on the bottom that rarely get seen and take more abuse plus it takes away the ability to resize should you need to.

Sometimes simple is the classiest look. Just my 2 cents.
 
That engagement ring is genuinely perfection. If someone asked what is in fashion now with the younger generation, that is exactly it.

What is the width of the band and the size of the diamonds on the band? What is the size of the centre diamond?
 
Specifically in relation to the band, matching every day of the week.

The engagement ring you have designed is perfection due to its simplicity, therefor the wedding band needs to blend in with that, not over power it. I'm assuming you are relatively young and that is the fashion these days, simple and classy.

Your setting is classic, and my opinion is that a matching band would set it off perfectly. I’m a big fan of eternity bands, but in your case I’d probably opt for a 3/4 one unless you’re positive you won’t be having children; children tend to change our finger sizes :confused2:. Then again, so does age and weight gain so I guess it also depends on how sentimental you are. I’m incredibly sentimental about many things but wearing something other than my “I do” band doesn’t phase me.

As for what to expect at your ID visit, it’s a very small space and a little hard to find. You have to go through two secured doors before encountering anyone, but once you’re in it’s all good. There’s a small showroom (maybe 10-15 feet long?) with two cases of jewelry. There’s also an office where you can sit and be shown items. My guess is that there’s also stock that isn’t on display. Yekutiel is the person I’m most familiar with and he’s warm and welcoming. My understanding is that the rest of the staff is the same.

i think we like the matching best. it just looks classic and since her fingers are relatively slender it makes the most sense.

question for you all - are designer rings typically negotiable or is there a set price at which all vendors will sell for?

I'm not in the jewelry business, but have dealt with other commodities where the manufacturer sells a product to many vendors. It's been my experience that the manufacturer typically has standard pricing and then applies discounts based on each vendor's specific volume purchase.

In other words if Vatche has a base price of $100 for a ring then Vendor A that only sells 10 per year may only receive a 5% discount for a cost of $95 + whatever markup he deems necessary. Vendor B sells 100 per year consequently receives a 35% discount making his cost only $65 + whatever markup he deems necessary.

Where it gets tricky is that Vatche may have an agreement with their vendors where they can sell directly but never at less than MSRP. And perhaps that value is base price + 25%, or in this example, $125.

So our options would be to buy from:

Vatche = $125 direct
Vendor A = $95 + whatever his markup ($30 max to match Vatche direct price)
Vendor B = $65 + whatever his markup ($60 max to match Vatche direct price)

So if you are set on Vatche, then your best price could POTENTIALLY be derived from Vendor B, as he theoretically has $60 in profit margin he could reduce to make you the best deal. Maybe he knows you are shopping at Vendor A also, and he throws out an offer for $95 knowing that Vendor A would be unlikely to sell you the ring for the same price as it yields $0 profit to them. FYI, I suspect the profit margins are considerably more than I am eluding to this in this fictitious example.

Again, all this is hypothetical as I don't know their exact pricing agreements, but this scenario is not uncommon in any manufactured good. At the end of the day, I would have a target budget in mind you want to achieve. If ask price is $1,200 and you have a $900 budget then I would level with the jeweler and let him know the obstacle you are facing and allow him an opportunity to work with you. You may not get $900, but maybe you will get $1,000 and that may be a great deal as you are both giving up a little to reach a mutual happy place.

One thing is certain, it never hurts to ask/negotiate. Just be respectful during the process and yet firm enough to successfully navigate the negotiation process.

My experiences with IDJ have always been that they give me their best price up front, no negotiating necessary. It doesn’t hurt to ask, but I’ve always been happy with the deal they offered.
 
Plus you did buy your engagement ring from them ...

Not ringo but what she/he is trying to say is that they have already made some money off of you from your engagement ring setting and
diamond so it would make sense that they could give you a little bit better deal on the wedding band (vs you walking in off the street
and this being your first purchase from them).

I got the feeling that he does give you the best price up front.

Think the point was that whoever sold you the original e-ring is probably more invested in you as a lifetime customer and would try to treat you fairly on the wedding ring since you already made a large purchase with them. Going to a new & different vendor may not yield the same loyalty or consideration since you will likely be making a one time purchase at a significantly lesser amount.

While I fully support getting the best price possible, I also advocate building a healthy relationship with your jeweler. Especially if you like & trust them. Money isn't the end all decision maker, but if it's an issue you should be able to talk to the original vendor and say X is beating you but I like our relationship so help me with the dollars so we can do some more business.

as an aside, is this considered 1/2 eternity or 3/4? i assume 1/2. this is her ER.

i am going to go with the matching band but if the ER is 1/2 would it look odd/off if i go with a 3/4 band?

If you choose to stop the pave diamonds, I would stop them at the same point as her e-ring so it looks uniform and planned.

Why concerning? Diamonds stop like the e-ring, you can re-size if needed and it probably saves you a few bucks to boot. You just afraid she won't like it?

seems most people prefer 3/4 or full is all.
