Hi,

After weeks of researching, lurking and agonising over what seems like millions of options, I am almost ready to chose a round brilliant diamond

For any PSers who would be willing to help such an indecisive soul as myself, I would love your input on the following diamonds I have found.

1)
$3,286
0.87 ct
G
SI1 (I have confirmed that this stone is eye-clean)
Depth: 60.3%
Table: 56%
Crown Angle 34.0 and 15%
Pavilion Angle 40.8 and 43.0%
Girdle: VTN to MED
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.22-6.26 x 3.76mm
GIA lab

2)
$4,052
0.90ct
H
VS2
Depth: 60.9%
Table: 57%
Crown Angle 33.5 and 14.5%
Pavilion Angle 40.4 and 42.5%
Girdle: MED to STK
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.20-6.24 x 3.79mm
GIA lab

They are both from online vendors and unfortunately I don''t have the opportunity to view them in person (I am in the UK). $4,000 is about as far as my budget will stretch.

I think from the above measurements that the 0.87ct will face up a tinsy bit larger than the 0.90ct, is this correct??

Hi, I would have to rule out #1 based on the very thin girdle. You can do better than #2 if you desire an ideal cut diamond. But both of those would appear the same size. They are almost the same diameter.

Out of those two I''d pick the second one, however I do think that you can do better.

This one is a tiny bit smaller but looks good

Hello Mellin!

I assume you know you'll have to pay 17.5% tax on the diamond to bring it into the UK? Just thought I would mention that, in case you hadn't factored it into the budget.

In any case, I have found you three amazing diamonds to take a look at:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3892/ 0.81ct G VS2 AGS0 H&A diamond - $3992 (The 40x photo looks really grotty, but it's dust, not inclusions in the stone - check out the plot on the AGS report & the microscopic pics).

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3833/ 0.83ct H VS2 AGS0 H&A diamond - $3713

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3893/ 0.81ct H SI1 AGS0 H&A diamond - $3337

These are all yummy scrummy, incredibly well-cut diamonds. :)

Do ask the vendor to confirm they are eye clean. Shouldn't be a problem with the two VS2s normally, but worth a check, and especially with the SI1.

*ETA* LOL!! Bee - great minds think alike.. we posted at the same time! x

Thanks everyone, this is just the kind of feedback I need.
I was hoping to get the stone from Whiteflash, as they have my favoured setting and it made sense to me to get the diamond from the same place. Is it just as easy to get a stone from another vendor? Can they just ship it to Whiteflash to put in my setting? Sorry, a bit clueless here.
An ideal diamond is really what I am after, so I am willing to wait and spend the time finding the right one.

Cleo - yes I have factored in the UK duties and taxes, thus the relatively strict budget. Sad person that I am, I have actually created a spreadsheet to work it all out for me!

Mellin, I would send the setting to whomever you purchase the diamond from, as they will take responsibilty for it (the stone) while it's being set.

(IF it's one from WF that doesn't require you to purchase a diamond also)

Thanks Ellen. I have just checked and the Whiteflash setting will not be shipped without a center diamond. arrrrgggghhh!

Panic is beginning to set in as I think I have done things round the wrong way, I have found my ideal setting first when I should have been concentrating on the diamond.

The situation is that I really really like the Harmony setting from Whiteflash. Now I am trying to get a ideal cut diamond as close to 0.90ct as I can and there isn''t many to be had.

I don''t know whether to be patient and wait it out a bit and see if a Whiteflash get a diamond, or go back to the drawing board (and this time start with the diamond). Whiteflash have said that they get new shipments in every 6-8 weeks but of course can''t guarantee that a diamond matching my criteria will appear.

I am now going to sit in a dark room and try to calm down......

Hi Mellin75 - have you contacted WF? It''s a good idea to have a chat to someone and let them know what kind of stone you are looking for and your budget and they will help find you the pefect stone. I let Lesley know what I was looking for and she found me a gorgeous ACA that I bought before it went up on the website. That way, if something comes becomes available with your specs, they will contact you. It worked for me, especially if stones of that size are hard to come across, they will get snatched up as soon as they go online.

I totally understand your stress. I just had my ering delivered from WF this week - am absolutely stunning ACA. Everything was organised via email, except for a single phone call (I am in Australia). You won''t regret holding out for an ideal stone, waiting is a killer but as soon as you open that box, it will be all worth it! WF are wonderful to work with too.
