I would love a halo setting for my engagement ring.

I don't care for either. Have you looked at Gaberial and Co settings? They have quite a few halos that are reasonably priced.
id jewelry sells them.

That stone doesn't look like a good pick either (even though you are missing a lot of Info) . Use the HCA tool to
help you pick a good stone. Look for stones that score under 2.

Thank you so much for the reply!

I am totally clueless about diamond!

All I know is my budget is $NZD 3500 which is about $USD 2800. Do you think I can afford a halo setting ring? I do not mind a small stone like .50 carat. The James Allen ones are all only limited to a .70 carat centre stone.

May I please ask if you can show me where I can find a halo setting ring within my price range? New Zealand's engagement rings are pretty limited in both design and price range.

Help Please! MILLION THANKS!!

Here is the website for Gabriel & Co. Many PSers have used this company and have been happy with the value. I think that they can accommodate most size center stones.

Here is a lovely halo from Gabriel & Co for $700. It fits a 5 mm round, which is about .5 ct. Perhaps this will work? Then we could help you with the stone, trying to stay within your budget... What do you think?

You know, if you are happy with the first setting you showed us, why not just let us help you find a nice stone and have it set separately?

You may need to be careful importing into NZ. If it is anything at all like Aus, you may very well have to pay additional costs and taxes. Just make sure you do your research! I'd hate for you to spend up to your maximum budget and then find yourself in a position of having to find the $$$ to pay to your local customs/tax dept.

This is lovely! How did you get a deal on the price? I need you to come jewelry shopping with me so you can haggle! ;))

Oh my thank you so much for all the helpful response!!

Do you think I can afford this one with a reasonably good stone?

So thankful for the help!!

That setting is almost 2/3 the budget you have for your entire ring if I understand correctly? Max of $2800 usd + GST/duties, I'm not entirely sure what they are for NZ. Imo it depends on what you want to prioritise. Would you prefer a larger diamond in a simple halo or a smaller diamond with a more elaborate setting? I'd prefer a larger diamond and a halo with a simple shank if I had to choose but what do you want to do? A simple halo with a plain shank is going to cost 600-800 and that leaves you ~2k to find a larger diamond. I don't think that setting even with a discount is going to work with your budget unless you can get it REALLY cheap.

I'm sure you could find a stone that would fit within the rest of your budget, but honestly, the quality isn't going to be the best. I would recommend maybe getting a halo with a plain shank and spend the extra $ on the stone. Just my opinion, though. If you want to move forward with this setting, we can help you find the best stone you can afford to fit your budget...

I agree with what everyone else is saying. I think I'd go a little simpler on the setting and spend a concentrate a little more on the center stone. Are you going to be the giver or the wearer of this? That may help with the kind of answers you get here.

here's one with a little bit on the sides, though not a full shank of pave, so you get the benefit of the some extra interest besides just the halo (which I certainly understand wanting) but the price is reasonable:

this one's got pave with a little split shank and very reasonable:

http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=42_132&products_id=15384&cType=ER

and this one:

http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=42_132&products_id=9471&cType=ER

These would all keep your setting budget a closer to half or under, and let you focus on a slightly larger stone.

If you like the more vintage styling, and are ok without a halo setting, this one is pretty with the 6 prongs and split shank and would free up some cash for the stone:

I may be rocking the boat, since this is a diamond forum after all, but I can certainly understand wanting the setting to also be very pretty and sacrificing a little on the stone. I am not a solitaire kind of girl myself and so while I think you should maximize the stone as much as you can, I don't think you should feel you need to get a $300 plain ring and a larger stone in the budget range you have. People have given a lot of choices so far on settings that can help accentuate a smaller stone. I bet ID Jewelry could help you with the stone. They have worked miracles on here before with tight budgets. You just have to get in contact with them and tell them what you need.

Great finds! Any of these would be great choices!

So, any progress on the ring hunt?

The problem with buying a ring from overseas and then importing it is that you have to pay for it, then customs charges you 15% of the purchase price for GST and then an extra 5% for customs duty. I looked at importing my ring too but it ended up cheaper having it made here.

Thank you all for all the helpful information sharing!!!

I might get my aunt at Orange County or friend in Seattle to bring back the ring that I have chosen, I love the Gabriel & Co's ring selection!

I am getting in touch with the sales rep at Gabriel & Co to get the information of stores which represent their selections in those locations.

So excited! Once I've decided which setting I'm getting I will post it up and ask for help for centre stone!!

You all have been so helpful I am very grateful for that!
