Hi everyone,

I may be replacing a round diamond I just bought due to the fact it glows bright yellow in the sunlight.

Here is my original: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3236261.htm

I thought the diamond was just perfect in specs, and it looks amazing in most lighting conditions. If it wasn't the for the yellow glow, I would be keeping it.

Here are some that I'm considering, and I'd like to get equal or better than what I currently have for the replacement.

2: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3256254.htm

Might consider even stepping up to a G color

4: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3256253.htm

I think #1 is my favorite so far with #2 being my least favorite (a few more inclusions). What do you guys think? Do you think it's worth it to step up from an H to G for a few hundred dollars more? I was previously happy with an I that was eye clean (ideal cut).

I'm sorta in the same boat as you. I'm trying to decide between a few ACA diamonds that are H color as well.

I really like #1 the best (don't worry I won't steal it from under you)
The only thing is that if you thought an I was too yellow, then an H might not be white enough either?

I saw an H color diamond yesterday at Tiffany's and next to an E color, and I could easily see a yellow tint face up and from the side.
So now this has be steering more towards a G or F color diamond.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the input!

It's not that I feel an I is too yellow, but rather the one I originally got glows yellow in the sun. Despite the AGS cert saying it has negligible fluorescence, it very much reacts to UV light. When it is overcast or indoors, the diamond does not look yellow to me.

So do you feel #1 looks pretty good? I'm no expert, but it appears it is much better than #2.

Hello NikonShooter,
I'm very sorry to hear about your concern with the original stone. I will personally contact you later today to discuss all options.

It is highly doubtful that what you are seeing is related to fluorescence. In order to create the effect you describe the diamond would have to have very strong yellow fluorescence, which is a bit rare in and of itself. AND that characteristic would have had to have been overlooked at both the laboratory and by the Whiteflash gemological review.

My guess is that in sunlight you are seeing spectral flares due to the prismatic effect of light being broken into its different colors- otherwise known as "fire" and normally considered a desirable effect. It could be that somehow this diamond is producing more bright yellow sparkles, I am not sure. The observation of fire is highly dependent on the type of light. Direct sunlight can can be a very good environment for observing this effect. The colors you see are also dependent on things such as the viewing distance and even the diameter of the observers pupil!

In any case, we want you to be thrilled with your diamond choice and in no way put off by it. I will reach out to you today to discuss.
