Well, I was originally looking at doing a halo around a sapphire I already have. I got the quotes back and shared with my husband who said, "Honey, don''t you think you''d where an diamond pendant more?" So, he suggested I take the money I was going to put toward the halo project to a solitiare pendant. Who am I to argue with a man who thinks I need a diamond????

So, I''d like to get a diamond pendant. I need to keep the total cost around $1000. The setting is $200 so I''m trying to stay in the $800 range for the diamond. What do you think of these? Any other suggestions?

For your price range, I say the first.

islanddreams,
for a pendant i would highly suggest looking at some stones in the i/j range as well. both will face up unbelievably white and you won''t be paying the premium for the ''g''.

Id go with an I/J si2 and step down to the ES line from WF.
OR and better for a pendant id look for a shallow pavilion diamond under 40.6 with decent symmetry.
There isnt a need to pay for a super-ideal for a pendant in my opinion other combos will not only work well but cost less too.

I did check the ES line and didn''t find anything. I also looked lower color grades but when looking at the diameter of the stones, the G seemed a better value.

STrmrdr--Why the shallow pavilion diamond under 40.6?

islanddreams,
i wasn't sure if you had considered the lower color grades, but i would not be surprised if the 'g' turned out to be the better value. there isn't a lot of 'wiggle room' in the smaller sizes price wise.

i like the stone with the med. blue fluourescence!

strm thinks the shallower stones under 40.6 are better in pendants than rings since these stones tend to look dark under the table when viewed close up. since pendants aren't viewed close up, the head obstruction doesn't effect the table making the stone look dark.

i would not rule out stones with <40.6pa for a pendant but i wouldn't infinitely prolong my search trying to find one either. same for the i/j color.

I did a quick scan through the WF seach engines. What would you be willing to sacrifice? they have some rather interesting K, SI3 stones that could bring you up to .5 - .57 carats with ''very good'' cut.

I do like your original choices - I have a G, SI2 for my e-ring, but even then, I do think about dropping to a lower colour for a bigger stone! My G is so white I can''t imagine that a couple of colour drops would be noticeable to me.

Again, maybe calling WF and getting them to compare some stones will help.

I''m not sure about K...I wouldn''t rule it out. All the K''s I saw on the WF in my price range were EGL certs & those are not eligible for future upgrades.....Eventually I would like to get a .75 carat pendant but that''s not in the budget now so I thought I''d take the initial step and work up to it.

I was intrigued with the medium blue flourescent diamond (option 2 from above) and had Whiteflash send me an idealscope picture. What do you think of it? Compared to the ACA option 1 (idealscope picture online through link in 1st post)

I can recommed a K. I have one from WF ES section and I love it. At first I was not sure but you do not see any color when it is one my neck. It is bright and sparkly and wonderful. Here is the Thread.

It sounds like J-SI (like THIS) would just barely fit a half carat in the budget, keeping comparable cut specs... so if G-Si fits in wihtout much downsizing, why not after all.

There are also these two I-VS2/Si1s at Wink's.

Do you have a certain pendant type in mind? Otherwise, there seem to be some well less than $100 - rather neglijable compared to the stone.

I want to do the 3 prong fixed pendant like this only in white gold....I have a really small diamond pendant with a bezel already (I think it is something like .125 carats), so I wanted something different. I really want it fixed. The one I have now slides all over the place. I'm really hoping the 4.91mm diameter will be big enough without a bezel.

I really like that setting. Love the way the stone sorta floats.

BTW, you are right about the K stones at WF right now. I didn''t notice that they were EGL stones when I looked, and if you are considering future upgrade, it is a good thing to keep in mind.

I think that the J stone that you have found might be great!

I think that stone you posted sounds (and looks) great. I also second J/K for pendants. GREAT deals.

If you can, I''d almost push the budget up a few hundred more so you can get a bigger stone, depending on their inventory. aka more around .60ct?

I have a 4.47 stone in a pendant not bezel and it winks from the neck but it''s not overpowering. I really like it but do want something bigger maybe next year. I am SO coveting that .94 K SI from WF.

I think, though, that your K is AGS graded, isn''t it, Mat? I would feel more confident in a K from AGS/GIA, but likely not as comfortable with an EGL K.

Well, I debated and finally went with the .428 stone. http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_Details.aspx?itemcode=AGS-6639902

I liked the J that was posted but it was a couple hundred dollars more and that pushed me over my $1000 budget. So, for now I think the 4.91mm will have to work. I''ll start saving up and keep an eye out for some I''s & J''s in the .60 range. Maybe even a K if it has the AGS/GIA certs.

Whiteflash said it will take about a week to make so I''m really hoping they can ship next Thursday so I can be wearing it a week from today!

Hey!

I have just discovered that if you are a return customer to WF you can collect your own ''referral bonus'' of $100. Have you bought there before?

I am assuming that if you have hit the $1000 price with your diamond and setting then you would be eligible to collect. It can be your first installment towards your upgrade!

(Geez, I am 2 days away from collecting my earrings from WF....maybe I should have gone over $1000 to collect $100, might have been worth it. OK, stop with the obsessing...)

Yes it is, I am not sure I would get a K with an EGL report, though I really do love the warmth of this little stone around my neck.

Yes, I did qualify for the $100 referral because I bought earrings last year. I was so close that I had to buy a bottle of sparkle cleaner to push me over the limit. I will wire WF money today because the banks were closed on Friday. I'm really hoping to have my necklace by Friday.

Mata--I will definitely be on the lookout for a GIA/AGS K stone as an upgrade. I'm glad you decided you liked yours. It's beautiful.

A diamond!? I know you are the Pricescope size queen, but that would be beyond anything I thought even you owned!!!

Deb

Well, I got my pendant from Whiteflash. 2 days early!!! I have learned a few things:

I love the sparkle of the diamond, but it could use to be a bit bigger. I will definitely be upgrading in the future.

The diamond does flip a little bit which I''m not liking. What makes it flip?

My e-ring & earrings are F in color and I can clearly see the difference when the earrings are next to the pendant diamond (G) in the box, but not when they are on me which is fine.

On another note, there was a small detail on the necklace itself that I never even though to ask about. The clasp part if on the left, and the loops on the right...which is opposite of how all my other necklaces are and opposite of how I am used to putting things on. I had to work quite a bit to get the necklace clasp to work with my opposite hand. I''m sure if I would have thought ahead to ask, Whiteflash would have switched it no problem. Just something to think about ladies as you buy your pendants.

Anyway, here''s the 1 picture WF took. Other to follow in next post because I don''t know how to post 2 in the same one.

EClark_bk.jpg

Here is picture 2. They did not line up the arrows, but I can''t tell when it is on me.

EClark_1.jpg

A lot of folks have commented about lining up the arrows on various pieces.

Oftentimes, vendors focus on making sure the girdle inscription will show (if they aren't trying to prong inclusions, that is).

Another challenge: some people want the arrows set perfectly north/south/east/west. Yet others prefer the stone set in such a way that the arrows aren't covered by the prongs.

In your instance, if they had set the arrows "straight"....perfectly north/south....the bottom arrow would have been beneath a prong. Instead, the way it's set means all the arrows show.

neck shots?
20.gif

That''s weird about the clasp. Maybe you can send it back and have them change that?? Or a local person could do it quickly. I think it''s very pretty. Can''t wait to see it on your neck.

I''ll try to get neck shots soon. I just drove out to the Fed Ex facility this morning and now I''m at work. It is snowing here for the first time this year and people don''t have their snow driving skills yet--it took me 20 minutes for a drive that normally takes 5--so I ran out of time to do the pictures
8.gif

I''ll get used the clasp. When I upgrade, I''ll ask WF to switch it if haven''t gotten used to it by then. The thing that may make me send it back for an adjustment is the flipping. The "ears" are attached just below the horizontal basket. What could they have done to make it flip less? The chain is 18" and at that level it flips somewhat easily--unless I practice "perfect" posture. I also had them put a jump ring at 16 1/2" and it flips less there. I really like the 16 1/2" length...so glad I asked for the jump ring.

the pendant flipping issue has been discussed many times before and i think the concensus is that basically it''s the nature of the beast. it''s going to be hard keeping a pendulous object in the same position with daily wear.

It is very lovely, I hope the flipping does not bother you over much. Very lovely stone!

Belle, I did go back and read all the threads on flipping....it seems like my dream pendant--round with a halo like ritani might have enough weight to stop the flipping....

Mata--does your new pendant flip? How is yours set?

i agree island, if you have enough weight the pendant might not flip as much. i think it''s time to make your dream a reality!
