I am in the midst of getting a new upgraded diamond. My current stone has a 63.9% depth (

) and faces up very small (purchased pre Pricescope). Time for an upgrade, but I don't want to make a mistake.

Can you please help me with these 3 semi-final choices? What do you think? All are round diamonds. Idealscope images are coming next week.

Diamond 1
1.77 carat D SI2 AGS ideal cut
Polish/Symmetry: ID/ID
Table: 55 %
Depth: 61.4 %
Crown angle: 34.6
Pavilion angle: 40.7
Measurements: 7.76 x 7.83 x 4.79
Girdle: 1 - 2.2 % (is this too thin?)
The certificate is an old AGS one and it does not list the star length or lower girdle facet %

Inclusion notes: has a few feathers and one is across the table, might not be eye clean, and worried about the feathers

Most expensive of the 3, because you're paying for a D, which I don't really even care about

Diamond 2
1.80 carat H SI1 AGS ideal cut
Polish/Symmetry: ID/ID
Table: 56.6 %
Depth: 61.8 %
Crown angle: 35.2 (is this too steep?)
Pavilion angle: 40.6
Measurements: 7.78 x 7.81 x 4.82
Girdle: thin to medium
Star length: 49 %
Lower girdle facets: 80 %

Diamond 3
1.74 carat G SI1 GIA Excellent cut
Polish/Symmetry: VG/VG (not a fan of this)
Table: 56 %
Depth: 60.8 %
Crown angle: 34 (too shallow?)
Pavilion angle: 40.6
Measurements: 7.76 x 7.82 x 4.74 (faces up biggest for its size compared to the other two!)
Girdle: thin to medium
Star length: 55 %
Lower girdle facets: 80 %

Inclusion notes: it has a small feather that goes to the edge of diamond (yikes!); otherwise very clean looking
Nice diamond but not crazy about the VG/VG.

This is the most affordable of the three.

The girdle should be fine. This is in the thin range.

All 3 looks promising. Depending on the IS image.

So far #2 would be my leader in the clubhouse pending images. Crown is fine with 40.6 pavillion on that one. The shallower #3 depends on which way numbers were rounded, but could also be good--IS will tell more when it arrives. I put #1 last, as it is the most expensive and you state you don''t care about D color and are worried about eye-clean. Why spend the extra? (The numbers on it are very good, of course)

my choice is #1 if i am buying.. i like the measurement (very nice crown and pavillion angles and very good numbers for table and depth!) ...

also i am colour conscious.. so the D is my choice!
plus i am biased towards AGS grading...

Thats a great chart which John P posted a while back which is extremely useful, as you can see Laila the girdle is fine! All of the diamonds look great Laila, with the last there is a very small chance it could show obstruction where the stone darkens when viewed closely but it could well be fine - an Idealscope image would tell us more.

I suspect no one is buying this stone because of the inclusion right across the table. I could see it easily on the magnified photo. It''s a shame though because I think owning a D would be cool!

Thanks Stone-cold, Jet, caesar, and Lorelei!

Lorelei, is this because of the somewhat shallow crown angle combined with the shallowish pavilion angle? It probably would have been better with a 40.8 pavilion angle. I''m learning!! OMG!

You got it!!!! This combo is on the border for being considered " shallow" so it could be perfectly fine - also the forced rounding of the angles could be helpful if in fact they are actually a little steeper or not if shallower but images would tell us more, and yes I would prefer a steeper pavilion angle in this case of around 40.8/ 41 degrees thereabouts but as I say there might be no problem at all, get an Idealscope image if you can.
