Hey everyone, I want to thank you again for helping me so much on my quest to reset a RB family diamond into a new ring. I thought about a halo for a long time, but Diamondseeker helped me figure out that a halo is really too dressy [perfect word] for someone like me-- a low- maintenance stay-at-home mom of three girls.
So I've decided that my new ring will either be a solitaire or a trellis three-stone for all rounds. I have it narrowed down to four designs in total. Also, I should point out that I wear a size 8.75 ring and have short, pudgy fingers- like a toddler's hand, only bigger.
My family stone is only 5.84mm, though it's technically .80 carat. I have, however, been reassured by several different reputable jewelers that it is well-cut for an older stone.
Advantages of three-stone: finger coverage; 3 stones symbolize my daughters.
Disadvantage: I won't want to wear it with a diamond band. Too blingy for me.
Advantages of solitaire: simple and classic; could later, as budget allows, wear with diamond band [I love Memoire Purity and Petite Prong bands].
Disadvantage: not as much finger coverage.
So, my two favorite trellis three-stone settings are:
BGD Crossed Trellis: http://tinyurl.com/cvvydar
and Yssie's lovely WF design: http://tinyurl.com/afrefdv
I guess my fear here is that my modest center stone won't look as nice as her 2+ carat in that setting! I love the simplicity of the BGD, but I also love the six prongs of "Butterflies" and the way it maintains the roundness of the center stone.
My two favorite solitaires are:
Vatche Caroline http://tinyurl.com/b4g2nv6 (closest I have found to the gorgeous Cartier 1895; would get without pave on the gallery)
and Mark Morrell Torchiere (Petite or not) http://tinyurl.com/ab3nf7o - just such a beautiful ring, and I have already reached out to Mark Morrell for info and he seems so lovely. I like that this has the roundness-enhancing six prongs, yet doesn't seem to be set impractically high, like some 6-prong designs.
Thoughts and comments appreciated, as always! And I would *love* to see handshots or hear experiences from anyone who has one of these rings.
