Hi all,

I'm based in Australia, looking to buy a diamond for my future fiance.

I've been researching for a while, and having looked in person here in Australia, I realise I can get a much better deal by buying from the US. I've been looking at the White Flash ACAs and Expert Selection diamonds but was wondering whether it was possible to find a comparable stone without the brand name premium.

I've tried to search around on the vendors mentioned on PS, but I'm not 100% sure on what exactly I should be looking for and I was hoping you guys might be able to help by suggesting some stones as a guide/starting point.

My budget is approximately US$20,000. Looking to get the biggest RB stone possible (2+ carats if possible), preferably staying in the H or above colour range and eye-clean.

My future fiance has a really small finger (size 4 or slightly smaller). What do you think about a 2ct on this size finger? Will this look substantial or possibly too much? We're looking at getting Victor Canera for the setting (have already contacted him). We were originally looking at the round Emilya but are now considering a solitare like Jocelyn, Evelyn, Aria, etc.

I'm so overwhelmed with this process, thanks for any help. I'd appreciate any feedback at all.
 
20G USD for the stone alone? You'll be up for duties/brokers fees, and then 10% GST on top bringing it into the country. The Aussie dollar isn't spectacular at the moment either, but you'll likely still come in ahead of what you'd find in most stores here, both in dollar value and quality.

H VS2, a bit smaller than you're after but priced accordingly. I'm fond of this one

If you can drop to an I colour, James Allen has a few AGS Ideals over 2C, but from the pics don't appear to have the same optical symmetry as the ones above.

Hi KobiD, thank you for your responses. Yes, the AUD:USD FX rate is definitely painful.

I am still looking. The stones you suggested were helpful but still not quite what I'm looking for. I need to achieve the 8mm diameter and am happy to step down to SI1 (or even SI2 if the stone is eye-clean), but need to stick to the US$20k mark.

I have also heard that Jogia is a good vendor that is located in Australia, just to give you another option. There is another thread going with someone from Australia looking for a diamond.
 
Hi, thank you for those suggestions. I was hoping to get some comments on the stone below. It looks like it's a 60/60 stone. The colour is I, which is a step lower than planned, but I'd like to hear what people think.
