Hi everyone. So my brother''s best friend is looking for an engagement ring and has enlisted my help. He has about 6.5k to spend on the center stone and would like it to be ACA or similar, G-H and eye-clean and be 1.1-1.3 carats. I found one or two possibilities but it seems like stock is really low right now. Any help or recommendations on a good stone would be appreciated.

Also, he wants a setting he saw from Whiteflash - if he bought the stone elsewhere could Whiteflash set it or vice-versa?

Thanks!!

A lot of SI2s come up for me at WF, more than just 1 or 2.

Aaagh - the stupid thing ate my post.

Julie - Thanks for looking. I did have Bob pull those three but there were easily visible inclusions in all of them. I did find a stone that was 1.2carat but it scored a 3.2 on the Cut Advisor - should it still even be considered? It''s a good price and a little bigger than he thought he could get and she does want size.

Thanks!

ahh, ok.

I''ve taken to doing a quick Ctrl+c when I post.

I don''t think the IS pics were that good on the two Expert Selection stones; I''d pass.

Ok - thanks Julie. We''ll keep looking then. Do you think there is a noticeable difference in size from a 1.12 to a 1.25? Also, how much warmth would be in an I stone? I''m not sure he wants to go down that far but as its not a huge diamond I''m not sure if the warmth would really be noticeable.

The difference between 1.12/1.25 or G/I is usually noticeable if you try hard enough, but the important thing is how much it matters to the wearer.

He is trying to make this a complete surprise and hasn't gotten much insight into what she wants at all except for round or princess solitaire (he's going with round). Basically, she's said sparkly (cut) and that size matters. To get over the 1.1 carat mark and still stay in budget he's got to go down to an H and probably SI1. He was hoping to get up to a 1.2+ and that's what I'm trying to do for him if possible I guess without sacrificing too much on cut.

He's also under somewhat of a time limit of the next few weeks so it's not looking like too much more inventory is going to be available. If anyone sees anything promising please let me know. His girlfriend is the sweetest most caring person I know so I want her to have a diamond that reflects her beautiful personality.

That, IMO, is an extra good-looking stone.

Thanks for your help Julie!! That''s what I was hoping to here.

It looks from the report that it''s only been up on GOG site a few days and I told my friend to grab it before someone else did. He put it on hold and is deciding between this and the one at Whiteflash. For the little bit of difference in the carat weight and the fact that the WF one is not an H&A I am leaning towards this one. Would you agree, or does the carat weight .15 make up for the difference in fire, brilliance the larger one may lack in?

I haven''t seen any WF stone...I missed it?

I didn''t want to post it as it hasn''t been put on hold yet but t''s an SI1 that''s eye-clean and .15 carats bigger than the GOG one. It''s scoring a 3.2 on the Cut Advisor though which says its very good and if the price is right then its a good deal.

based on the HCA, I''d go with the GOG stone.

That was my thought as well. Her ring size is about a 4 so I think the 1.12 will still look very nice. He is thinking a setting like this http://www.goodoldgold.com/setting/V-102/

I love helping friends buy diamonds!! I have to admit to being slightly jealous though as I was hoping to be buying my own diamonds for earrings - but with our wedding costing more than we thought I don''t see that happening for a while.
