Hello all.

Need some help picking out a setting for a 1.5 BGS round brilliant stone! Thinking about a simple setting, that really shows off the stone, so guess that is what i really need to figure out. Also, not sure about four vs six prong? White gold vs platinum?? Cathedral or no? Hoping you guys can't point me in the right direction.

Here are a few I've been looking at...

Thanks again for all the great help and suggestions. Much appreciated!

My first love is the last link, but the third ring down. It does have some stones on the shank. It's really beautiful. I'm not sure the size of the shank, though, and as you may hear from other more professional PS'ers, you should think carefully about a small mm band. Generally I hear people suggesting no less than 2mm. I also liked the Melanie setting (I think second link?).

Metal is so personal. I chose platinum due to its durability and color. Good luck!

I would go with a BG setting definitely since you are getting the stone from there. If you have no idea what she likes, I'd probably go with a solitaire and then later get a diamond wedding band. The Grace is set too low and I have known people who later changed settings because it didn't work well with a wedding band. I'd recommend platinum. Worth it in the long run.

These are good:

with diamonds:

I strongly recommend getting the matching diamond bands if you go with a diamond shank e-ring.

Hmmm.... given the choice, I'd opt for a Mark Morrell setting, they are so classic and unique at the same time, I love the taper in at the shoulders to enhance the center stone more, with a thicker shank for durability, I have a 6 prong solitaire that goes from 1.8mm at the shoulders to 2.5mm at the bottom, and it's wonderful!

Metal choice: Platinum.

Cathedral: Totally personal preference, I have two solitaires with cathedral shoulders, and I love the look. I also love the look of my basket bezel set stone.

4 or 6 prong: As someone who currently as 2 prongs broken off her 6 prong solitaire, I vote 6 prong. Protects the stone more!

Thanks DS2006. You have been a big help throughout this entire process, and I appreciate it very much. Was wondering if you had any thoughts on the Tapered Tiffany Style Half Round (2nd row, middle pic) vs the regular Classic Tiffany half round? Thanks again for your thoughts.

Thanks you for the replies. Which is your favorite MMorrell? And what makes the MM settings unique (is it the style/designs)? I have been looking at the Petite Torchiere and the Petite Sunburst. The pics look very pretty. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Oh, yes, I think all of their (BG) Tiffany settings are beautiful...the regular, the tapered, and the knife edge. Very classic and elegant. Of course, I wear a similar one, myself!

You are very welcome!

BigBill, I really love the MM "Classic Torchiere". It's the third ring down on the MM link you posted. The setting of the stone with the gentle, yet beautifully detailed side stones.... really beautiful! Can't wait to know what you select.

I'd definitely go with the Petite Torchiere if you went with MM. The regular is too wide. Petite is about 2.5mm which is wider than a lot of people here go with. Price is going to be around $2326 plus shipping for that with the tiny diamonds in the crown which is like double the cost of the BG settings, though, and you'd want a matching wedding band, too. They are beautiful but it depends on how much you want to spend.

If you do go with MM, then I'd recommend looking at Good Old Gold for the diamond (if you haven't already bought one) because they sell MM settings at the same pricing and they handle all the sending back and forth to MM for you.

DS, oh, yes! I didn't realize that. 2.5mm I like better, too. I just liked that last picture with the extra stones on the side. Next to it, "Classic Torchiere" was labeled.

Thank you all so much. Due to price and convenience, have decided to go with one of BG's settings. Will report back when all is complete. Thanks again for all the great suggestions.
