Hey!

Please help me decide on a diamond for my engagement ring.

I have rounded it down to 4 finalists, to be set in a Tiffany style band (WG or P). Which of these would you go for purely based on the specs:

Diamond #1

0.9 I SI1 (X X VG[sym])
6.16*6.12*3.83
Depth: 62.5
Table: 55
Crown Angle: 34.5
Pav Angle: 40.6
Girdle: Medium - Slightly Thick

Diamond #2

0.9 H SI1 (X X X)
6.15*6.17*3.82
Depth: 62
Table: 56
Crown Angle: 35.0
Pav Angle: 40.8
Girdle: Medium

Diamond #3

0.9 G SI1 (X X X)
6.20*6.17*3.82
Depth: 61.8
Table: 57
Crown Angle: 36.0
Pav Angle: 40.6
Girdle: Medium

Diamond #4

0.9 H SI1 (X X X)
6.19*6.22*3.85
Depth: 62.1
Table: 57
Crown Angle: 35.5
Pav Angle: 40.6
Girdle: Medium

They are in order of ascending cost with about $600 difference between #1 and #4.

Thanks a lot!!

#2 has the best possibility of being good. #1 is too deep (don't go higher than 62.3 but less is better). #3 and 4 have angles that could result in leakage, so you'd have to have idealscope or ASET to be sure. I looked at several stones the other day with 36 crown angles and 40.6 pav angles and all had leakage.

Thanks for your response. Please note though that Diamond 4 has a crown angle of 35.5 not 36 if that makes a difference?

I have been using HCA to determine the cut quality which gives the following results:

Diamond 1: 0.9 TIC
Diamond 2: 1.6 TIC
Diamond 3: 1.8 FIC
Diamond 4: 1.4 TIC

Do you think that the leakage will mean that they are not this good in reality? This is the first time I've come across the term so could you let me know how much difference it is likely to make to the naked eye in terms of sparkle/fire etc?

Will I be better off sacrificing some size and going for one of the 'premium' cuts on the market? Or is anyone able to suggest any other diamonds up to about $4750 that have an amazing cut?

Thanks
