Hello,

I have been reading on pricescope for some months now, but now it's time for a first post, as I really need your help to take the final decisions.

Initially, I intended to buy a RB, 0.4ct, D-F color, VS2 or better from Bluenile. After having educated myself on pricescope, I realised that I could easily drop in clarity and color, without noticing any visual difference, as long as I stay with an ideal cut diamond. I also learned the importance of seeing actual photos, ASET and Idealscope images of the stone, which led me to Whiteflash. After having seen some diamonds in local stores, I knew that 0.5-0.6ct is the carat range I prefer.

The point where I am still hesitating is which color and clarity grades to choose. Here are three Whiteflash ACA diamonds within my budget:

1) 0.591 H SI1 ACA

2) 0.518 F SI1 ACA

3) 0.525 H VS2 ACA
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2781339.htm

- Number 1 is the biggest of the three stones.
- Number 2 is smaller, but has a better color than Number 1.
- Number 3 is smaller, but has a better clarity than number 1.

Which one the the three would you choose. Will there be any visual difference between the three stones, except for the size?

For the setting, I am currently considering the Vatche Royal X-prong.

For the chosen diamond size, I think that it would fit better than the normal X-Prong, as the band tapers down where it reaches the diamond. This setting in platinum is available at Whiteflash for $1,949. I am not sure if it is reasonable to spend the same amount on the setting than on the stone, but until now I haven't found any other setting that I really like. What do you think about this choice?

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

I think the legato would look really nice with that size

Just give you another option there is a solasfera at GOG for 2248

GOG carries gabriel if you don't mind white gold

Of those, I like the largest stone, the .59 H SI1. I normally prefer VS2, but that SI1 looks really clean especially in the center.

I would also not go with a $2000 Vatche setting. I absolutely would go with the Legato Sleekline and put the extra money towards a slightly larger diamond. I think the shank on the Vatche may be a little wide for this size diamond, too. A wider shank tends to make the diamond looks smaller unless the diamond is large, of course.

Thank you for the answers so far!

@Farmer gal:

Concerning the 0.60ct, G, VS2 stone you mentionend: Do you think it would be preferable to go for a VS2 stone? Or what exactly differs it from the 0.59, H, SI1?
The Solasfera also looks very interesting. Until now, I didn't know this type of H&A diamonds. What exactly are the differences of Solasfera to the Whiteflash ACA diamonds. Is it simply the 10 arrows instead of 8? What will be the visual difference between the two types of cut?

@diamondseeker2006:

I actually don't intend to go over the 0.60ct size. In my region it is kind of unusual to see larger diamonds than 0.50ct, so I don't want the ring to be too "flashy".

Concerning the setting: I know that my girlfriend likes the crossed prongs under the diamond, and that she doesnt like square bands. This reduces the number of available designs considerably. Are there any other settings available that fit this description? Until now, I have only found the mentioned Vatche setting that would also go well with a diamond of 0.50-0.60ct (as the band is quite thin where it approaches the stone).

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it :-)

After some more weeks of daily diamond research, I found one stone on Whiteflash that really seems to be perfect for me:

According to Sheerah, it is absolutely eye clean from any distance (top and side view).

I have the diamond reserved until tomorrow 1pm and will then take my final decision. I don't think that I can go really wrong with an ACA diamond, but I would nevertheless be really grateful for any advice or opinion on this stone!

Thank you so much in advance!

Marc

It will be beautiful :twirl:
