copied from other thread....

first is a dud totally deceptive regular picture here is the IS
18350_xlarge.jpg

The second one is deep, is it discounted?
cut is decent but not the top end.

Third is another id pass on without seeing it in person.
From the images it can go either way.

Honestly im not that thrilled with all 3 but the 3rd one might be ok.

Thanks so much, Storm! I really appreciate your help. I am worried that the symmetry in the third one is only good. Would that be a problem? I also noticed that it is considered a step cut instead of a square emerald cut. What is the difference? What should I look for in the ideal scope? I''m kind of a novice when it comes to that. Thanks so much again!

I didn't look at the certs since you had already posted the numbers.
IS images are wierd sometimes when it comes to asschers some of the best just show as totally red but usually what you look for is patterns then you have to figure out if the stone is tilted and how much... its a pita.
The absolute worst is the IS large white in the dead center, that means the asscher will be dead its an immediate rejection.
The problem is that a small amount of back lighting will make the stone look good in regular pictures which is why I called it deceptive.
A large culet which will show up as a small white dot is fine and should be noted on the report but a large area like that one is bad bad bad.

the 3rd one has 3 crown and 4 pavilion rows of facets like a Royal Asscher which is why its called that by GIA.
SE are 3 and 3

So after looking at the GIA report and the IS, would you go with the second or third stone? The third stone is only a VS2 and I do not want any visible inclusions. Do you think they would be visible with the naked eye? I value your expertise.

I think the third one may be the better of the 2 but I would want it eyeballed by the vendor.
Some questions:
1: vs2 is usually safe, have them check it
2: what is causing the good symmetry grade and what effect does it have face up?
3: more pictures would be nice
4: overall opinion of the patterns and diamond.

Most important is do you like that style of asscher?
Does the picture speak too you or would you prefer one with more contrast?

I really love the pattern of the third one, but when I first looked at the IS it looked a little light. Isn''t it better for it to be darker? Does that mean it won''t be as sparkly? I want one that has optimal sparkle.

Another question...how does symmetry really affect the stone and is having it just good awful?

good can be fine, I wouldnt have it called in(better odds on call ins with vg/vg or better) but since they have it in stock its worth a look.
The IS is badly tilted and not much use beyond the regular picture.
Also get a sarin report for crown height, its likely fine but good to check.

Thanks so much for all of your help, Storm! So many decisions... In your opinion, would you go with the third one or the second one, which is safer because it has excellent polish and very good symmetry? I am so confused as which one to choose!

I''d get more info on the third at this point if in your position.

I would definitely go with the third one. The extra step will offer so much more scintillation, plus you get good spread. The second is too deep, and the first has a big dark drop. The third one is gorgeous, and you won''t see ANY flaws in the VS2.

Thank you to everyone who replied! I am excited to finally get a stone :) I think the third one really does look great too.

Ok....so this is what the jeweler said in response to my questions on the third stone. In my opinion, I think it sounds pretty great, but after him responding I wanted to see what you thought of his response.

Here it is:

1. The .91 G/VS-2 is a super face up eye clean stone with two grayish microscopic pinpoints under the table between 12 O''clock and the center culet.

2. The "Good" Symmetry is the results from the the upper girdle halves on one segment or side of the stone being just a tad off line from meeting up and exactly touching the meet points of the corresponding lower half facets. You can only see this with a 10X loupe and from the side. It is not noticeable face up and does not affect the appearance or light performance of this diamond.

3. This diamond displays very good light performance with very good scintillation and contrast brilliance. It''s measurements make the stone visually face up bigger than its .91 carat weight.

sounds good too me.
The good sym as described is fine.

Congratulations!!!!! That is indeed a breathtaking asscher!

Ditto, and ditto!

I am going to have it set in an octagonal halo with the halo tilted at a 45 degree angle. It will basically look the same from the top as it will from the side. That was my boyfriend''s idea. I am going to have a pave band with some diamonds on the side too. I am combing 3 Daniel K rings, actually. I am having a local jeweler design it and I am going to see my mold on Thursday so I am really excited! Thank you for all of your help. I am just so excited to get the ring already! :)

Very cool. I love the octagonal halo so much with asschers. Will the halo be metal ? Either way, a halo is such a great way to show off the asscher shape for sure. I loved seeing your pictures.

The halo will be pave and along the band as well. I think it will drive me crazy waiting for the ring and the jeweler is really taking their time. I wish there was something I could do to expedite the process :)
