So I've decided to go with Whiteflash because of customer service and that they have the setting I want (petite open cathedral, custom). I was wondering if you guys could help me choose. I've tried reading all over Pricescope and I'm a little overwhelmed!

Here are the ones I'm looking at:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/compare.aspx?idnos=3114544,3063758,3172007,3172006
(note: I am open to Expert Selection as well but I wasn't able to find one that meets my specs)

Specs I'm looking for:
1.2-1.4 carat
Ideal cut
G-H colour (she wants it to be white, but finds D/E/F to be too icy/cold. I think G/H is the best compromise)
Clarity - hopefully high.

So here's what I'm not sure about with respect to clarity. We went shopping together and at two different stores she claimed to be able to tell the difference between VVS1 and VS2 diamonds, pointing out a "cloudiness" in the VS2 that wasn't present in the VVS1, which she thought was brighter and more clear. I tried to keep all other factors equal but every single store we went to claimed that all their diamonds are ideal cut.

I don't think that's the case. Is the difference she was seeing due to cut quality? Or is she actually able to see the difference between VVS1 and VS2 (by definition of those clarity grades, that does not seem likely to me). Am I safe here if I go VS2 or higher, as long as it's Whiteflash eye clean?

Can you guys help me compare between these four? The first one (1.331ct/G/VS1) is my favourite but it's slightly out of my price range. The other three - their ASET/Ideal scope images look so similar to my untrained eye (except that the second's inclusion shows up on the Hearts view). I can tell the difference between ideal diamonds and poor quality ones when I look at ASET/ideal scope, but I find it very difficult to differentiate between these ones. Is it even possible?

Thanks for any help! :D

Thanks Gypsy!

You didn't like the G VS2? For my education, does too much leakage on the ideal scope mean too much white? So that relatively minor bit of white on the middle two makes a difference?

The ones we looked at in the store were GIA graded (went to De Beers, Tiffany, Birks, Cartier - wasn't too impressed with Cartier so didn't bother asking about their cut grades) but they were pretty evasive on actually showing me the certificate and just insisted that they had top quality cuts. To be honest it's one of the main reasons I'm shopping online (that and price :)). Just sketched me right out.

That I you linked looks great as well. Definitely helps the wallet! I will have to ask them to take a look at that stone so I can compare its colour to a G. I want it to be warmer than D/E/F but I'm not sure I want to go all the way down to I. Thanks!

I'd go with either the first stone (GVS1) or the last one, the one that gypsy picked. you should be ok with vs2, don't really need vs1 in my opinion.

All of those are outstanding stones! I love G-H VS and think that is a great choice! I absolutely would choose one of the three 1.3+ carat stones. Between the G and larger H stone, if it is in budget, I'd love to have the 1.33 G VS1. But if that is over budget, I would choose the 1.36 H VS2. I would eliminate the two smallest stones under 7mm.

I am maybe leaning towards the 1.36 H, though, because the price difference is pretty steep to get the G VS1. Only if you think she is color sensitive would I think the G color would be worth that premium. I have had G and H stones from WF and they are pretty close to the same in face up appearance.

Thanks jeniroquai, may I ask why you dislike the two in the middle?

Am I correct that the G VS1 is the best out of the four? Is it worth the price premium? (I lied a bit, it's at the very top end of my budget, so I *could* get it but I'm just trying not to :))

Thanks diamondseeker2006! So you dislike the middle two because of the diameter?

I noticed that the H VS2 that everyone is pointing out has a fairly significant amount of black on the arrows in its ASET, doesn't mean light leakage?

All of the stones are outstanding in cut. So you narrow it down by taking the two largest, and then decide whether the G VS1 is worth the extra you'd have to pay. I see no reason at all to choose the other two.
