HCA for Diamond A and Diamond B.JPG

What is it going to be use for?

How much are the two diamonds? You're paying an incredible mark-up for an IF stone. E color is always fun. If you want to stick with a colorless stone, you could save a bundle by going down to a VS2 and still have a highly coveted stone (or even a slightly larger stone for the same price).

Wow, that was quick. It''s going to be a replacement for my wife stolen wedding ring. Unfortunately, I''m gonna have to downgrade and buy her a small diamond ring this time because i can''t afford to buy her another 1.1 carat diamond ring. I purposely choose the color and clarity to be the same as the previously stolen ring. Thanks a lot for all the diamond guru''s here in advance!

Sorry about your wife''s ring.

Can you really tell me which one is more expensive? I think the expert can. Well, about the color and clarity, I''ve pretty much made up my mind to narrow down my option only between this two diamond. I really hope that you all could help me choose which one should I buy.

I actually paid USD1,008.35 for Diamond B but the shop mistakenly gave me Diamond A. After I told them the mistake they said they would let me choose either one between the two of them. They want me to keep Diamond A as the diamond is already fixed to the setting/ring and they repeatedly said Diamond A cut is triple excellent without further explaining to me which diamond is actually better or more expensive. I know that the price may not be much different between the two diamond but I''m really confuse why they don''t want to tell me which one is better. I just don''t want to be cheated and got a cheaper diamond and less value than what I''ve paid for, that''s all..

Thanks MC..

I would go with A then. It is a more balance cut stone, there may be some slight leakage but probably not noticeable for that size.

my friend which was with me that day told me that he like Diamond B better because he said that it look a little bit rounder and bigger and have more spark in it. when i compare the two diamond side by side, he may have a point there.. that''s why i post the hca test here.. Last week, i found out that another shop is selling the same color, clarity and triple excellent cut like Diamond A were selling at USD905.80 only. When i told my diamond shop about it, he says that it can''t be, he says perhaps the diamond that the other shop is selling might have a slightly faint flourescence but when i try to check the other shop again to see about the flourescence, the diamond is already sold but they show me all their diamond in store don''t have flourescence. Hmmm.. have i overpaid the price for my diamond?

I agree, the other is rather shallow in the crown, could be ok but it would be more of a brilliant stone and you might not see much fire. The shallow crowned diamond might do better in a pendant because of this.

what does the holloway cut adviser for both diamond means?

Bear in mind the HCA is really used for rejection, not selection, it merely advises that a particular stone is worth further evaluation or not, this is done by images such as Idealscope usually.

The first diamond; has borderline steep deep crown and pavilion angles, as stonecold says it is possible this stone could show light leakage ( light leaking out of the stone instead of being reflected back to the eye). Without seeing it, it is impossible to judge whether the stone will show leakage or not, or how much if so, depending on various factors such as rounding issues with the proportions and overall cutting precision. Out of the two stones it shows the most potential.

The second diamond; has a shallow crown angle as previously mentioned, this can mean the diamond will favour brilliance/ white light over fire or coloured light, so as it falls into Brilliant Ideal Cut range ( BIC) it might not be the most versatile performer.

so, in conclusion what you''re trying to say in laymen terms is diamond a should be more valuable than diamond b.. fine, i''ll choose diamond a then.. interesting!

first time i bought her the wedding ring, i just bought the best possible diamond according to the gia chart that i could afford.. since her finger is small i just bought a 1.1 carat diamond instead of 1.5 carat with lesser color and clarity..

Lorelei, out of curiosity what do you mean by Diamond A shows the most potential?
Do you mean Diamond A shows the most potential to show leakage or potential as in better out of the two of them?

Does a more versatile performer diamond always be much more expensive/valuable than the other less versatile performer?

sorry for being such a noob, i''m also a newbie in this diamond thingy, i know more about gold than diamond..

You know what, i''ve just received a phone call from the shop which inform me that they''ve checked their record and found out that Diamond A is slightly less expensive than Diamond B (it''s about USD60 difference), perhaps it''s because of the brand name (proudly south african) which cause diamond b to be a little more expensive i presume..

Please don't apologize, I always want anyone to feel comfortable enough to ask me to clarify if I haven't made myself clear!

By potential, I meant that diamond A to me is a potentially better choice than diamond B in this case.

Also I just thought I would mention that you could lower the colour and clarity if you wished and get a larger stone which would look just as good as E IF if well cut, but this is a personal choice - if you prefer high colour and clarity then that is not a problem!
