So I went dress shopping this week at one store on the east coast and pretty much narrowed it down to two dresses I really liked. I'm hoping to avoid spending too much time obsessing on this and too much money on a dress. Both dresses are in the 2k range which I'd prefer to spend.

My wedding is going to be in Carmel, CA on a lawn during the afternoon. We'll be near the beach but not on it. One look is more fun, one more formal. Both are flattering to the figure though!

Please please please help me pick! I'm just not sure which way to go. I definitely want my dress to look wedding dressy enough though. I know my fi thinks that the column dresses dont really look dressy enough. I don't think he expects me to be in a huge ball gown but something weddingy.

Here's a pic of the first choice by Pronovias. This one was liked by my stepbrother, stepmother and my fiancee's sister. I like this one because it's lightweight, fun and suits my personality pretty well. Keep in mind the top will fit MUCH better once its altered. It's a bit big around there in these pics.

Here's a link to the model photo of it:

Here it is without the jacket (it looks better with it though)

Here's me with a veil in the pronovias dress from the first dress shopping round. I think the veil is way too long though. (The more I look at this post the more indecisive I get! Both dresses are so slimming and flattering in my opinion!)

The gown with the veil looks best on you bcoz you look prettier and more feminine there. Maybe the others shows your personality but the last gown shows something extra about you that your fiance might find alluring. Is that tatoo of yours permanent?

Since the last gown is all white. And white symbolizes purity and innocence I believe you can find a make up artists that can hide your tatoo for a while.

Both dresses are beautiful chioces... But I really like the first one the best. It seems to be more fun, and I get the impression that''s more you!

As for the comment about the tattoos... I am sure they are real... and she got ''em so she might as well rock ''em... Why cover your personality on you wedding day, a day that is all about YOU... just my two cents!

Yeah your so right about being yourself.

In my case. If ever, I will not get married or wear a wedding dress bcoz I don''t have any religion.

And wedding rings are required for weddings, including engagement rings. So I guess it will be bad for the gem and jewelry industry.

The main consumers of jewelry are related to beliefs. Engagement presents have religious and ethiquette attachments. If people refuse to follow these things as such in a way as such then it''s really bad for the gem, jewelry and wedding industry. And who wants religion to be offended?

I love the 1st one on you. The pic with the veil actually cinched it for me. I think it''s going to look gorgeous on your wedding day. The 2nd is more traditional bridal in my opinion. However, the 1st is definitely very wedding dressy and very bride like and looks great on you. I just can really see that one on a lawn near the ocean and if it is alittle windy that day! Flowing so nicely. Go For the 2nd! It fits your style.

number 1 FOR SURE. i adore that dress and you look smashing in it.

oh, and perfect diamond - i'm pretty sure there is no religious foundation to engagement rings.

The Pronovias, hands down. It''s beautiful on you. I agree about the veil, probably something that''s 6-8 inches shorter would be more in scale with the gown.

Gorgeous!

I love the first one - for some reason it just looks more ''you''. Maybe it matches the tatoos?

I was tossing between the two but then saw in the veil and no 1 won hands down :) Absolutely stunning :).

pronovias! It really looks great on you. I don''t really know how else to say it, but I

it!

I love the first one! It fits you beautifully, and I actually like how it shows off your tattoos ;)

I vote Pronovias

I vote for #1. This dress looks more fun and young and you look more comfortable in it.

I vote #1 as well, very flattering and feminine.

Both gows are actually a white/ivory color, not a white white. I have no plans to cover my tattoos since that''s part of who I am and who my friends are. I won''t be the only person in the bridal party with tattoos. The bridesmaid has her whole back done in a dragon! I''m wondering if I''d put a veil photo of the other dress if that may have helped it out at all. It is definitely more traditional though.

I think if you have one tattoo you hate maybe you should hide it but I have tons and I love them.

Thanks for all the input everyone! While I'm still thinking in my head about it it does confirm what my stepmothers love for the Pronovias is... the fact that it not only shows off my tattoos but it seems more inline with who I am personally. I still do love the traditonal thing but maybe it's clashing with who I am... i'm still unsure. I have purple hair as wel which makes the whole thing even more colorful so to speak! THe other dress shows most of my tatooos as wel just not the ones on the shoulder.

I tried on a gorgeos Monique Lhullier dress and while it was pretty you should see how much that did NOT suit me at all. I still want to maintain some traditionalness though which is why I want a long white wedding dress (or ivory).

violet, I think the first gown looks the best on your bod. However, for me, all I really notice are the colorful tats all over, the gown ends up getting lost! That said, I do realize that when someone has as many tats as you do, they obviously love them and would like to show them off. So...I''m wondering...have you considered trying on more contemporary gown designs that perhaps "go" more with your body work? I say this because both designs you show above are gorgeous but they''re very elegant and classic looking but for my eye, they get sort of lost competing with the colorfulness of the tats. I''m thinking there might be more contemporary designs/styles that would actually highlight your tats and not "compete" with them, if that makes sense? Or completely disregard my ramblings altogether!

I really love you in the first gown! It makes your waist look tiny and really enhances curves! Your future hubby will be so impressed! I also like how the first dress has the really pretty straps. Everyone wears strapless these days and I like something a bit more unique!

Best of luck in making your decision!

Hiya,

I''m with Surf on this one. Dress 1 IS really much nicer AND nicer on you, but I''m inclined to think that something super simple and streamlined (which can still be traditional!) would let you, as Crooked put it, ''rock your tatoos'' more. Of course I don''t know you, but your pics are bubbling over with personality, and the simpler, and more elegantly streamlined the dress, the more YOU (and your awesome ink!) will jump out.

There''s a line in Anna Karenina which describes the very simple elegant black gown she wears to a ball. That, Tolstoy says, is because her beauty doesn''t need any help. The dress is just the frame.

You seems like the kind of woman that "doesn''t need any help", if you know what I mean.

Just something to consider!

I''m not really interested in ''contemporary''. My fiancee would like something a bit more traditional and I would as well. Even though I have colorful tattoos and hair I still like the traidtional or more tradtional type of look. The wedding itself will be traditional and we''re not doing thing bizzare with it. It''s going to have a bit of a marie antoinette tea party look since we''re doing an elegant table setting but with more brighter pinks, gold and light blue. We''re using antique teapots for centerpieces and the like.

The tattoo topic is hard. For me I treat them like they''re there but I don''t dress around them per se. I just don''t wnat to make them look oddball by trying to wear a strange jacket or something to ''cover'' them up. I''m just wearing whatever loooks good on me period.

Thanks I see where you''re coming from. I just know my fiancee wouldn''t like a contemporary streamlined dress. I showed him a lot of different photos and he didn''t like those. He said they didn''t look like wedding dressees enough to him. I feel the same way.

Thank you! I am with you on the strapless. That was one of my first criteria going in there, please no strapless dresses if possible.... I hate how every single dress seems to be strapless. I liked dress 2 because of the jacket. No jacket and dress two would have been out the door.

Dress 1 is quite popular on here!

I''m going to go against the grain and say that I like dress 2 better (more flattering to your figure in my opinion), with the caveat that I''m not a huge fan of pickups - I think they will look really dated and trendy in a year or two. But I think its really flattering for you to have a simple, elegant line like that on top. Dress #1 for me seems to really distract from you, and it doesn''t look particularly bridal to me. I would keep looking and see if you can find something similar to dress 2 on the top (LOVE the lace jacket, and I actually think you look smashing even with it off) with something more simple on the bottom. Maybe try out that more simple top shape with different skirt shapes - A-line through ballgown. I feel like with your lovely curves, you might end up looking smashing with something that has a more ballgown-ey skirt and/or dropped waist.

There ARE a lot of pickups on that dress true. By dated/trendy in a year or two do you mean that my photos are going to look dated or..? Ballgowney is too big on me. I''m 5'' 3". Plus with an outdoor wedding ballgown doesn''t work well. Dropped waist is ok though.

I think pick-ups may already look dated, if you want to gauge by what''s on the runways. I was flipping through a bridal mag at the gym and it looks like pick-ups have already gone the way of the Dodo. And while I''m sure we''ll all look ''of our era'' in photos, I have this sneaky feeling that pick-ups may be the equivalent of the huge puffy sleeves of the 80''s.

BUT, as we''ve so often said on here, though, the key thing is what makes YOU feel awesome and beautiful, not what happens to be in style at the moment, right?
