Is there such a thing as too much research? I'm going bonkers!
I'm looking for a 2 carat or larger stone, and while there are soooo many online, I can't find exactly what I'm looking for with the budget being WAY busted!

We are replacing my lost Engagement ring (lost in NY at Christmastime after I took bad fall and broke my hand!). My previous stone was 1.5, so hubby is upgrading me to at least a 2 this time.

Anyway, is it too much to expect to find something really nice for $20K or less? I could probably push the budget a bit for the "right" stone. (actually, when the salesperson asked if we had budget to stay in, he said "no").

We went to a local jeweler yesterday to see some stones, they were pushing the J color, which was a little on the warm side, in comparison, but will I even notice that? I was even better in natural light, but will I be happy with that later? At first look, the best one overall was the J, 2.37 carats, and SI1, but really eye clean, for just over 20K. That one was AGS, they had both AGS and GIA.

I have been obsessively looking at diamonds online for a few weeks, and reading everything I can...my brain is on overload.
Do I compromise on color, size, clarity? I do want to have maximum sparkle so have been using the HCA guide while looking online.

If I go down in clarity to a SI1, the GIA reports look pretty busy compared to the higher of course, is it possible to know what I am getting based on just that report?

My wish list would be H or better, 2.0 or larger (even better!) with all the right dimensions, polish, etc...eye clean, of course.
Any suggestions from you would be so much appreciated!!!

Have a hard time linking to James A so the info is above it is an H but $860.00 over your budget.

if you do less than an ideal cut you may be able to find a larger size in an H but under 20K . . . .but I am not sure if you want that . . . .

2.01 I SI1 with very few inclusions for 15K at IDJ. Under 2 HCA. You'd have to reach to IDJ to see if it's eyeclean and get an idealscope

Thank you for your replies! Baby Monster, I hadn't visited IDJ before...found this one a bit above the budget, but no sales tax, so might be OK...what do you think?

16Ocean, I wasn't able to find that SKU on James Allen

JulieN, I had seen that one, I'm not sure about "twinning wisps" and their effect on the diamond. Would definitely have to ask for more info on that, but it measures up nicely.

I'm getting the feeling that if I want to go to an H, I will need to step the budget up a bit, if I want 3X. I just want it to be super sparkly! We looked at more yesterday at another jeweler here, but limited stones, they are going to get some in with my specs, but I think their prices were pretty high.

here's another BN: (but we live in WA and for whatever reason, they charge sales tax to here...so add 8.4% ugh)

That's a 60/60 stone, which some people like and others not so much. It does score under 2 HCA so read up on these and see if they're your cup of tea. https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/60-60-proportioned-diamond

You most definitely need to increase your budget to get an ideal cut H VS2 over 2ct that is not a 60/60 stone. I recommend reaching out to IDJ, which is a PS vendor, to see if they can find something for you within your budget and preferred specs.

P.S. If you like the stone I posted, you'd better put it on hold ASAP! Lurkers and such... :errrr:

OOPS!! ...just saw where Niel posted this in another thread for you! (she found it, so I thought I'd pass it along...) :))

Thank you :-) I'm actually thinking that after all the talk...I need to go with an H in color...still looking...

Re: Please Help! Looking for 2.0 (or larger) brain on overlo

The JA H i posted is still available. And twinning wisps are almost never an issue in SI1.

I have one posted (in a setting, but can sell loose) on www.idonowidont.com (price flexible)

Just throwing that out there :) You said you are in WA state? So am I! I'm up almost by the Canadian border, so if you wanted to check it out in person you might not be too far away.
Thank you...I can see this is a good value! I would like to up the clarity a bit, and perhaps the size of the stone, with the maximum budget allowed :-)
