"Diamondsrock,
the diamond that had the 34.3 and the 40.9 appeared much brighter? That combo is pretty close to the WF stone we have been talking about. "

I just checked your WF stone and it has a 35 crown angle. The one they were discussing had 34.3 which is quite a bit lower.

Actually, the diamond in that thread was 40.6 PA 34.3 CA. Though it may seem close numerically, when we are talking about the tight ideal range 40.9 PA 35 CA is at the opposite end of the borders of ideal.

Boy, having a chart that said 'this=this' or 'that=that, end of story' would he helpful, but diamonds at the borders of shallow and deep - still within ideal parameters - must be seen live, dynamically, to be decisively judged. The thousands of owners of beautiful 40.6 PA diamonds and those with 35 CA, many on PS, will attest to that.

Wow. This is very complex. I didn''t realize that a number difference that small could mean so much. I thought that an ideal cut stone is an ideal cut stone and that was all there was to it. I didn''t realize that there were good ideal cut stones and less good ideal cut stones. I am sure, however, that since this stone is in the expert selection, it is still a beautiful stone at a good value. I guess what I am learning from all of this is that it won''t be the brightest, sparkliest stone I''ve ever seen, but will be a great stone for the price that will out perform most average cut, non-ideal diamonds.

Thanks for all the help!

Ideal summary.

agree
no problem with that as long as you know what your getting and are happy with that.
WF has several higher performance diamonds as does GOG like the one you linked but you also pay more for it.
Its your trade off to make if you wish.
