So glad I've found this website!!

I'm a medical professional from the UK who is fed up of being overquoted by jewellery chain stores.
I've been reading about diamonds and searching for the past month.
However despite my best efforts unfortunately I am no better informed.

I have this lovely woman who I am desperate to get engaged to.
unfortunately her mother works for Lunn's and her sister is studying silversmithing and jewellery
So she has some quite exacting standards of a diamond-:(

The colour must be D (for her this is the most important specification!)
The cut, symmetry and polish should be excellent.
I've been looking almost exclusively at GIA certified rings.

I'm looking at 0.6 to 0.8 Carat. My limit for the diamond is $5,300

I'm most worried about the cut. I don't want to buy an essentially unblemished small diamond if it doesn't sparkle

I found this one on blue-nile.

Is it any good? The Holloway Cut Advisor scores it at 2.5

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to PS! :)) I'm in the UK,too.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I do think you can get a better diamond (at least with regard to HCA) for less than the one you've linked to.

How about this one from Blue Nile?

Seems to fit your criteria and scores a 1.2 on the HCA. You'd need to have Blue Nile call it in though, to make sure it's eye clean. Also, do you know your future fiancee's thoughts on fluorescence? This one is medium blue, which would be lovely, but as she's got jewellery in her blood, she might have a particular stance on the subject. :))

This one might be nice, too. It's a higher clarity and only faint fluoro. Scores a 2 on HCA.

It's really difficult shopping for diamonds in the UK, in my opinion, as we have such limited options. Are you open to buying online from a US vendor? You'll have to pay import duties, but that may be offset by diamond prices being generally lower in the US.

If she has jewelry in her blood I might not go above faint flouro as there are many polarizing opinions on flouro. As of late I feel it has become more accepted and even adored while in the past I feel it was shunned. So I don't know which camp her and her family falls into :)

thanks for all the feedback!
The fluorescence should be faint to none
Clarity should be "eye clean" although she favours VS1 and above
She's keen for the best diamond available within those price margins
shes given little input with regards to cut though. How do you find very well cut diamonds?
I'm more than willing to ship from overseas. The UK market isn't anywhere near as good as USA
