Thank you in advance for viewing this post and replying. Here is my situation: I am looking and spending countless hours trying to find a great Emerald Cut diamond for my girlfriend.

I came across a 1.20 EVS2, EX cut, VG polish, VG sym, 65.1 depth, 65% table, 1.40 ratio. The inclusions provide "INDENTED NATURAL" and show a small crystal pinpoint.

On paper, and at least from what I can tell, this diamond looks great for the price -$5600 or so. HOWEVER, I don''t know ANYTHING about what an "indented natural." I want to make sure I''m not buying a chipped diamond, and something that''s going to affect the beauty of this diamond. If you have any knowledge and/or expertise about this particular inclusion, please share with me and the others. I know there is someone with great information, and that''s why I came here.

Thanks again! I really would like to know more as I''m getting closer to my deadline of purchase.

A natural is a piece of the original rough "skin" that did not get polished off the diamond. An indented natural means that this piece is slightly below the surrouding polished surface. Ask the vendor who has the diamond to evaluate it for you--location and eye-clean. At VS2 clarity, I doubt that you would see it, but it would be prudent to check. Many times the natural is on or near the girdle and really not that noticeable.

Natural = the original outside/"skin" of the rough, sometimes when diamonds are cut there''s a bit of it left on. Indented natural is just a bit of natural left behind which indents the diamond. Not a chip, but you''d want to know where it is.

We just bought an emerald cut diamond VERY similar to the specs you posted - EVS2, 1.20, Depth 65.2/Table 64%, EX polish, VG symmetry - it also has an "indented natural" flaw. I can''t see it at all. I think it''s somewhere around the girdle, from memory.

It shouldn''t be a problem with a VS2 I would have thought.

I see. I guess I''ll do my prudent check and make my move.

And it seems like we have the exact diamond! LOL...that makes me feel a little bit more comfortable.

You shouldn''t have a problem with an indented natural, particularly in VS clarity but it never hurts to check to be sure.
