Hi there,
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated and settle a lot of anxiety for me. We actually purchased a .85, I1, E colour, Ideal cut and Symmetry diamond. The inclusions are white and the one is off to the side which can be covered with a prong. We paid $3740 pls tax. Is this a reasonable price? We were also looking at a .8, D colour, SI1, excellent cut, symmetry and polish with faint fluorescence for $4530. I am so confused as to what diamond to go with. To add more confusion, the .8 is a GIA cert and the .85 is a Gemscan which is a local Canadian company. Our jeweler is more than willing to give our money back and wait for a different diamond. I am so confused. I have read never to buy gemscan and then I have read that it is hit and miss with any lab and that gemscan is actually stricter on cut, but maybe not colour. Even if both diamonds were GIA would the difference in quality be worth the difference in price?
We have till tomorrow to decide and I would truly appreciate any feedback.
Thank you so much.

That is rather expensive. Have you considered buying online from the USA?

I agree with Julie that you may have paid too much. I found a comparable that's bigger and only a VG cut...it's a bit deep...but you didn't provide any information on the cut of your stone.

Anyways, this one's about $700 less than yours...

I would also consider buying from JA or one of our other vendors...(JA also offers PS members a 1-5% additional discount...)

Thank you so much. We have considered online but this jeweler was able to offer prices that are comparable to online, especially the .8 for $4530 (I thought anyways). Would there ever be a reason to pay this for an I1? The jeweler will return our money so that is not an issue.
Our budget is no more that $3800 US and I would like a triple excellent as close to .85 as we can get. Do you think that is possible with our budget? I do not have any measurements because the diamond just got the cert, but they will be available.
Thank you so much!

So the jeweler we are dealing with does not sell below an F colour. He sells very high end diamonds and his prices on everything else was very comparable to what we found on James Allen. The problem with this diamond is it is Gemscan and I am not entirely sure I trust it as well as the fact that it is very difficult to find an I1, ideal cut to compare it to.
I really would like to retain the higher cut. Do you think this is doable with our budget?

Most high end places that only sell D-F also only sell VS+. Nothing wrong with good I1s, it is just a little odd.

Hi,
That is very true. This was a one off purchase and he bought three of these stones because of the cut and colour.
The lowest he usually sells is SI1 but that is not the norm. That is what makes me think that there must be value to this stone? The ideal cut, E colour, excellent symmetry. Do you think that is enough to warrant the price? What would you think a diamond like this should be valued at? The more I try and learn about diamonds the more confused I become...
Thank you so much.

Are you talking about your diamond?

I'd HIGHLY suggest calling ID Jewelry. They have a store in New York and are very very trust worthy! With your budget, I know they'll be able to find you something!

Here's what I've found:

http://idjewelryonline.com/diamond_details1.php?id=46169508&shape=B&pricefrom=0&priceto=500000&caratfrom=.85&caratto=1.5&colorfrom=D&colorto=H&clarfrom=IF&clarto=SI1&polish=ANY&cert=GIA&symmetry=ANY&depthfrom=&depthto=&tablefrom=&tableto=&cut=Array&item_id=

You can ask them about it...they will absolutely work with you on the price too!!! And provide you with an ideal scope image (what you suggest you ask for when buying online). But IDJ will also send you a video....

Yes. I was referring to my diamond. How much do you think it would be if it were a GIA excellent cut, symmetry and polish?
I am leaning towards returning it, but I would really like to maintain the excellent cut, symmetry and polish.
This is so confusing!!
Thank you.

no way for us to tell you. We don't know the dimensions, the clarity plots or anything else that would affect the price....I'd say just return it and call IDJ as I suggested above because they will find you what you want....
