So Im finally about to propose but I cant decide between two diamonds. Here there are:

http://www.whiteflash.com/xfactor/X-Factor-cut-diamond-27.htm

and

http://www.angara.com/diamond-details.do?pID=472975

I know the angara diamond is bigger but I''m a little concerned about the table and depth %, also I hear that whiteflash is a little better. They are about the same price as the mounting for whiteflash would be a little more and I get the pricescope discount for anagara, dont think there is one for whiteflash

Any advise?

Thanks

Welcome!

I would pick the WF diamond easily, as it is a known quantity being an in house diamond. The Angara stone, it is very difficult to judge these shapes by the numbers, and without photos and ASET images, these are provided with the WF diamond. Also WF do offer a PS discount, I believe you need to mention Pricescope and pay by a bank wire to get it. Just to let you know, you could consider dropping your colour to F or G even unless D and E is your preference.

Lastly, check with WF that this diamond is eyeclean to your specifications if you decide to pursue this diamond.

Certainly I would vote for the stone where there is more info available however, Isn''t a girdle that goes from exremely thin to extremely think a red flag for potential chipping? Or is that how this cut is designed?

I''m not sure, I know this cut is supposed to guard against chipping compared to a traditional princess....

I have seen this before a few times with X Factor cuts, that the girdles can have this grade. Now, I was reading on this subject, one of the experts was saying that with a diamond that may have an ex thin grade for the girdle, it is best to assess the diamond on a case by case basis. Sometimes the ex thin part of the girdle may be a durability issue, depending on how much of the girdle is affected and where. But also it can be due to reasons such as an indented natural ( if I remember correctly) or just be a very small area of the girdle in an area which is less likely to chip, so it is unlikely to be a problem.

So best thing is to check with WF Bama, and ask them about this particular stone if there is a potential problem, they will be pleased to help you!

Another quick one, how much can you really tell, or see, the difference between a VS2 and an SI1 ? Also any visible difference between a D or E?

Thanks again

With VS2 and SI1, assuming both are totally eyeclean, then they should look indentical, eyeclean is eyeclean with the naked eye. It is a case of knowing what your comfort level is regarding eyecleanliness, in other words, if you don't want to see any inclusions at any angle at close scrutiny, let your vendor know that. The trade definition of eyeclean is basically this - no inclusions visible with normal vision in normal light at arms length, so some diamonds may not pass muster at very close scrutiny or from the side, as clarity grading is done face up.

See this thread for more info on clarity and eyecleanliness. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/clarity-eye-clean-definition-interpretation-and-taste.30483/

With D and E which are GIA or AGS lab graded, it is probably safe to assume that most lay people couldn't tell the difference between them, especially once mounted in a ring.

It is cut which gives a diamond it's beauty and magic, so that is a very important consideration.
