We purchased the stone and the setting while shopping together one day. I absolutely love my ring but I also know diamonds are investments. I am now not sure about the diamond. When I purchased in the store, it had a GIA cut of very good but it was very sparkly and I loved it.

Then I came home and put the info into the HCA and it came back with a 5

. It said the fire and scintilation (sp?) were both fair. The cut is very good, the polish is very good and the symmetry is good. Now I don''t know. I''m so torn. I love it so much and I have this emotional attachment to it because its my ring but is it a bad investment??

I wish I had more info for you guys but I''m out of town and the gia cert. (along with pics) are all home.

I think it''s important that you remember what you thought of it before you ran the numbers. Did it "sing" to you? Do you feel it''s sparkly and pretty? If you love your ring (and I am assuming you feel you got a good deal pricewise) then you may just want to love it and keep it. That said, if you have an opportunity to return it and you think that you can find something that you will equally love with a better HCA then we can certainly help point you in the right direction.

Can you post some pics so we can see what it looks like?

I don''t have any photos with me.

I don''t know anymore. I love my ring and to me its perfect and to those that see it with no diamond knowledge other than they know carat size (LOL), they think its beautiful.

It''s a fairly small stone .75 ct. Does this make a difference? Would it have more fire if its a smaller stone or is that wishful thinking? I feel like it does sparkle a lot but now I don''t know. I''m very happy with it personally but from an investment perspective I don''t know if it was a smart decision and now I feel torn.

I''m bumping for more opinions...I really am torn =(

I don''t think you should think of your diamond as an investment. While the price of diamonds does generally go up over time, you will be hard pressed to find someone who will buy your diamond at full value. And that''s not even considering why you''d ever want to sell it in the first place.

If you like your diamond, and you think it sparkles and fires beautifully, then that''s all that matters.

Ditto Doom, I really don''t think you should be thinking in terms of investment. Although they increase over time in value, you can rarely ever get their value in price when you try to sell it unless you wait many many years. I would honestly think about how you feel when you look at it. Do you love it? Will it bother you now that you know it''s not well-cut?

First, diamonds, in general, are pretty lousy "investments". Yes, that stinks, but it is the way it is. Buy a diamond because you love it and want it... not because you think you will resell it and make a profit someday. (Because that probably ain''t NEVER gonna happen!)

Second, I''m so sorry you are second guessing your new stone. Here''s my humble 2 cents.

If the diamond is returnable, then you have options. Look around, compare it to other stones, find some HoF or other AGS-0 well-cut stones and see if you see any differences and if they bother you. You may well decide to keep your current stone afterall.

If it is not returnable, then just keep it clean

and ENJOY that diamond for all it means to you. And maybe sometime down the line, if you want to, you can upgrade it or turn it into a lovely pendent or one half a set of earrings.

But please try not to let the *numbers* we crunch and hairs we split here on PS diminish your joy of your engagement and your ring. Congratulations.

You love it. If you''d never come to pricescope and heard of the HCA you''d still love it and know that it''s beautiful and sparkly. Stop thinking about the analysis and just enjoy it!

Most diamonds are a bad investment as the other gals have told you, please don''t worry about the HCA score - you loved this diamond and it is precious to you - that is all that matters!!! Please enjoy your lovely ring!

Every diamond is a bad "investment" from the moment it leaves the store, with the exception of exceptionally large (well above 5 carats, D-E, VVS) stones.

Buy what makes you happy, and if you think you might want to upgrade and receive credit for 100% of the value, then buy from a vendor who has a good trade in policy.

I just wanted to say that I recently bought an engagement ring for my soon to be FI and I only found pricescope after I had bought the ring. I had the same problem you had except mine scored a 5.6! I looked around some more and realized I could do better and brought it back to the B&M where I purchased it. They brought out five more stones for me to look at, 2 AGS000, and 3 GIA ex''s. I ended up getting one of the GIA Ex''s because that is the one that finally spoke to me, even though it only scored 2.7, which isn''t under the 2.0 limit, but still much better than the 5.6. So my advice is that if you can take it back, then take it back and hopefully the jeweler will work with you on this to make sure you''re absolutely happy. Otherwise, I agree with everybody else that you should just enjoy it! You picked it out for a reason, enjoy that reason.
