Hi,
I am thinking of setting my 1 ct diamond in a halo setting with 1 pointers . what will be more durable 14 kt or 18 kt white gold ?
and should I go with BG custom halo design or with a stock setting form another manufacturer set with BG melee ?
thanks

As far as durability goes, 18 K is softer, so the 14K may hold up better. the rest is up to your own personal preference and budget. Happy shopping!

Not sure if you can purchase BGD melee to go to someone else to set in their settings, or if BGD would replace stones from a stock setting and insert their own. You may have to enquire about that first, before you go to far along in that plan.

What are your halo setting options?

BGD only uses 18k. For pave platinum is best, period. But 18k is better than 14k from what I understand.

I thought that op was asking about durability... Since the higher the karat the softer the gold, then 14k would be the best choice if durability was the only factor. However, for looks- wise, then some may prefer 18k... I guess its just a personal preference :)

No, it depends a lot on method of fabrication (casting versus other methods) and design. For pave 18k is better from what I understand. Neither one is empirically better than the other, it depends on what you want it use it for. The right tool for the job, as it were.

Hi,
since I have a limited budget ,actually BG suggested the other company's halo setting , it is either 14 kt or 18 .they will set it with their signature melee .

Gypsy ,
can you please give me your expert opinion on this halo setting :

That's a lovely halo! Do you know whether they can tilt the halo so that the diamonds are more visible in the profile view?

That's wonderful that BGD will set their melee in another's stock setting - I did not know that - thanks for the info! I also think emcee has a good idea about enquiring if it is at all possible to tilt the stock setting so the halo 'dips' slightly and you can see the diamonds from a profile view... Maybe they can - who knows?

I do love that BGD setting - very small donut means your wedding band wont be perfectly flush, but it won't look completely distanced from the ering, either. Nice gallery on the halo!

I ADORE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great support, small donut, even pave, great melee (of course) and very sleek and classic.

Thanks gypsy .
I also contcted WF .they will no longer do custom work with other diamonds than their own .but they will set the other diamonds into their stock settings if they have insurance .
does any one know if insurance companies insure during setting only ? as I do not plan on having a long term insurance .

Jewelers Mutual will cover a loose stone during the setting process, but I don't understand why you wouldn't continue your coverage? You're making a large investment, you should absolutely consider protecting it. We see people post all the time about chipped or cracked diamonds, lost rings, damaged settings etc. And the cost associated with insuring your purchase is really quite minimal considering....
