Hi everyone!

I recently got a diamond for an engagement ring. I would like your opinion if I did well and at least it''s a good deal, not necessarily the best.

My mom and I were shopping and this one stone just stood out to the both of us compared to many others.

GIA cert.
Round Brilliant
1.67 carat
Color: G
Clarity: SI2 (but nothing visible to the naked eye)
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluoresence: None

Depth: 61.7%
Table: 55%
Crown angle: 34.5
Pavillion angle: 40.8

We both really liked the cut and how it made the stone sparkle and the size is a good fit for the setting which we already have. We got this stone and other dealer services for both ring and stone for $13,000. What do you think?

Regards and thanks,
D

Hi Drish,

The stones specs look great, I bet it''s very pretty! And a yummy size.

As for the price, hard to say without a good description of the setting.

Ok, in reading over this again, I''m confused. You say you already had the setting, but then you give a price for "ring and stone". Do you mean, by dealer services, that they will do maintenance on the ring?

If you paid that price, for the stone alone, in doing a price search, they are starting at around 10,500.

Wow, thanks for the responses, this community really is great.

Ellen, sorry for the confusion. I had purchased the setting a few months ago. So this is just for the stone. However, the dealer whom I am getting it from is going to do a full appraisal and he said even though I didn''t get the setting from him that he would fix it if a stone falls out from it. The setting is 18k white gold, and its one of those ones that look a little old fashioned.. no baguettes but the entire ring is crusted with diamonds, I guess it''s called pave? It''s total 1.13 carat weight just on the setting.

So a big concern when shopping was making sure the stone looked as good if not better (in fire and color) than the small stones in the setting.

Since I posted I did notice similar graded stones costing less, but when I run the numbers through the Cut Advisor, they all have ratings from between 2.5 and 4. The stone I got rates 1.3 in the cut advisor. I found some stones on another site which were comparable in sizes and grades and also in cut but those started at 13,700 and went up to almost 15,000, so it makes me feel even better about it. I got initially concerned when I noticed prices out there lower than what I got it for.

The stone specs look great, I hope you come back with some pictures after it''s set!
