Hello,

I realize this is a smaller budget than most people have in these threads but I would really appreciate any assistance.

I am trying to find a friend get a great Princess Diamond in a solitaire setting with pave on the band.

So far, for Settings, we've been looking at something like:

http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-own-ring/petite-micropave-diamond-ring-14k-white-gold_48629?elem=img&track=product

And for a Princess Diamond (Let's assume Budget is $2,000 for the diamond) So far this is my favorite! It is an AGS-0 Ideal and "TrueHearts" (not sure what that means but the cut looks really nice)

If I could get some guidance here for Princess stones I'd really appreciate it. I got my girlfriend an Oval diamond and am not sure what to look for in Princesses in terms of dimensions, depth, table, etc etc

That is a nice diamond, but I would go lower in color in order to get a larger stone. You can generally go to H-I color and get a little more size for the budget.

Here is a stone I really like:

This looks like the only setting that would be close to budget:

I'll look and see what else is at JA.

Niel: They (WF) just had the one setting I posted close to budget. And I think it is better quality than the JA one he posted which is too thin.

I adore an asscher over a princess personally. Does your friend know that she specifically wants princess cut? I honestly don't see an H or I color stone in budget that is as good as the one from WF unless you go smaller.

Oh! i didnt even notice the setting, i assumed it was another princess, i checked it again and its very pretty! Youre right, the cheapest pave setting from JA is not a great quality, id avoid that

Good question. I know that she wanted either an Emerald or Princess, so maybe an Ascher would be a good compromise. I just posted here looking for Princesses because honestly Emeralds really confuse me...I have no idea what to look for!

Oh! if she loves emeralds and princess, an asscher is like those two had a baby! lol

i really really looove that asscher i posted, have him reserve that as there isnt anything else like that in budget on JA for asschers... illl go look at the emeralds.

Does she favour one over the other? Princess cuts have a thin faster scintillation pattern, Emeralds and Asschers a much broader slower pattern. An emerald cut will give you the largest facing (biggest looking on the hand) stone for your budget.

I like the wf ones, but then again, are their settings in budget??

Now, i know, i know, this is a wildcard as its square, but not a princess square. sense his budget is what it is, im still going to share it

I forgot to mention, this setting says it only fits a round and princess. I would, however ask very nicely if there was any way to make the asscher fit without extra cost, as it is square too.

Then, ask for a Pricescope preferred members discount, see I'd they can take a bit off the diamond price.

I would consider having the setting millgrained. Its free and I think it would flatter that setting- and add to the vintage asscher feel.

Thanks very much guys, my friend showed his gf these pics and she says she loves the Ascher!!

Still think this is the best bet? http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/asscher-cut/0.72-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-274035

I am really lost when it comes to figuring out what is a better cut ascher vs another. No HCA score or eye-test of "sparkliness" really

Yes I do think that's his best bet. Have him reserve it now. We can look to see if any more fit his criteria. We can reserve 3 stones, get asets, ask for a gemologist review and see what those results yield

Just reserved it with their online chat! Would love to see if you guys can recommend any other Aschers. It seems like Aschers are definitely the #1 choice now.

I also advised him to go with solitaire setting so that he can spend more $$ on the diamond (his gf approved of this idea), so let's say up the budget on the main stone to $2100-ish?

I was going to suggest the same thing, as you can always ad a diamond wedding band, and diamond wedding band with a solitaire i soooo classy.

thing about asschers is there arent that many, so finding a good one might be hard, so even turning it into a solitaire might not open up too many options, but we shall see

Yeah and I told him also getting a simple solitaire setting would make it super easy to upgrade in the future if that turned into something he wanted to do.

You should ALSO reserve the AGS princess you linked earlier, its a great choice for the price.
