Hi Pricescopers,

Firstly I would like to say thank you to everyone who has posted in these forums. I have learnt an incredible amount from you in the past few months and now finally feel ready to purchase a ring for my partner of 9 years. I am planning on proposing in 6 weeks so my time is running out!

I have decided on the following specifications:

Setting: Victor Canera Jocelyn with Scalloped Basked
Carot: 1.35-1.5 carots
Colour: G-I
Clarity: VS1-SI1
Cut: Ideal/Excellent (really this is what I would like to be as good as possible)

Price range: $15000 for the entire ring. So ~$10000 - $12000 for the diamond.

I have asked Victor to look into some H&A diamonds for me however I am keen to look at other retailers which are well regarded on this forum. In particular I have been looking at JA, WF and GOG.

However I can't seem to tell the difference between which diamonds have the right dimensions/characteristics and which don't.

If anyone can help me out and recommend some options I would be incredibly grateful! Thanks in advance!

Cheers

P.S. I live in Australia so was going to request the diamond retailer I choose to send the diamond directly to Victor. Does anyone know if this would be possible?

Thanks for your prompt reply Niel.

Victor has suggested the following 3 diamonds. I realise they are all H&A however is there any distinguishing factor that would lead you towards one in particular (other than the price/carots):

Also do you think I could get a better diamond for this price from WF/JA/GOG?

Thanks again.

Considering you are out of the US, I think it is easiest to buy both from Victor since he has some great diamond choices. I certainly would go with the 1.32 ct stone as it is the largest!

This is the closest stone I see to it, and it is less, but I believe Victor gives a discount on the setting if you buy the stone through him, so you may come out close to the same.

I am also in Australia and recommend getting the stone from Victor provided he has one with the specs you want, if you purchase both from him you will get a discount on the setting/overall ring. He is also one of the vendors that knows how to fill in the paperwork correctly and keep copies if you need it for customs so you pay 10% not 15% in import fees. It's also going to be easier if you want to get it done in 6 weeks because you need to allow time to make the ring & for shipping and customs.

This is the best cut not to mention the largest of the 3 you have selected, I like a small table (like this) personally but it's up to you;

With the ease of getting it all in one place, plus the discount and the fact from what arkieb1 said, he know what he's doing when it comes to overseas transactions- I would think that's your best bet.
