I walked into a reputable jeweler in the diamond district. He''s been in business for over 30 years. After some haggling we settled on a price of a fancy yellow diamond with an EGL cert. The cert claimed that the diamond was laser inscribed.
I left a deposit (non-refundable--store policy etc). However, before the final purchase i asked him to see the laser inscription, we went across the street to a gem lab (with a microscope). The person was unable to find the inscription. Upon seeing this I asked for my money back, the salesperson has asked me to wait as he has sent the diamond back to the EGL lab asking for an explanation and a re-assessment of the stone.
However, at this point i have lost trust in the shop. But at the same time store policy is that deposits are non-refundable. Do i have case with the CC company saying that the diamond was not inscribed as the cert said it would be? The description of laser inscription on the cert did not match the article description.
what is the best way to proceed.
