Hello experts!

I bought a 0.53ct G, VS2 Cut, polish, summetry VG/VG/VG on bluenile.com for $1300 about a year ago. I''ve been searching for upgrade to around 1ct for our wedding comming up but bluenile doesn''t want to take their product back for upgrades :-(
I finally went to a local Jared and the manager there offered me $1800 for mine to get his $3700+tax (tiffany ring $175, resize $50, life time warranty $30) diamond 0.81ct G, VS2 ex/ex/ex GIA cut grade/pol/sum, 5.99 x 6.02mm can''t remember depth. I searched bluenile and found a similiar one for $3092

My problem is bluenile wont take my old stone for their new one. Am I getting a good deal with Jared? Should I try to negotiate with Jared for my stone + $1900-$2000 cash out the door? I wanted a 1ct but their 1ct stones are somewhere above $6500 with same color clarity, but cut grade polish summetry are next ex/ex/ex. It''s always ex/vg/ex, ex/ex/vg. Please help me. My budget is my stone + around $3500 cash give or take.

is the diamond you are interested in certed? if so? what are the specifics of the stones? Remember that a B&M store such as Jareds will have a higer cost than Blueniles due to operating and such so if the specs come back good on the diamond then, I think its a fair price that Jared is even offering you $1800 for a stone that you paid less for in return for one of theirs, I don''t know if you can negotiate too much on their stone but worth a try. Try to get the details on the stone specifics ie: table, depth, crown and pavilion angles

At Jared you will have to buy 2x the price they give you for the stone, so if they give you $1800 you have to spend another $1800. So you will be looking at $3600 and that will be whatever you can find at that price. If you want a bigger stone you will have to spend more. Now if you want to TAKE only $1300 for the stone, then you only have to PAY another $1300. I doubt they will argue with you about taking your stone off your hands for less $$$. But again, then you have to find a stone for $2600.

It sounds like Jareds is giving you a good deal taking a diamond on trade you didn''t buy from them. You can probably find a diamond online a bit cheaper but then you wouldn''t be able to trade in the diamond you have. A nice thing about having it from a local store you can always get it cleaned, checked, sized and repaired free.

Thats a tough decision. I wouldn''t pass up the deal Jared''s is offering you for your diamond. In return, id get one of their peerless for just under 1ct (so you dont pay the premium). I think you would be completely happy with a .85-.99ct :D

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the inputs. The 0.81ct stone that I mention above is cert by GIA with ideal cut grade ex/ex polish /summetry. It bears the ideal blue wheel symbol of Jared when I browsed their website for it. It has almost exactly the features the one I linked from bluenile except I can''t remember the angel/table/depth. I hope it is at least comparable to ideal cut or signature ideal cut from bluenile.

Even if I sell my stone on ebay or craigslist for 1000 and pay 3095 for the one on bluenile I would only have to pay another 2095. Now if I trade mine to Jared for 1800 and get theirs for 3700+10.25% tax = 4079. I would have to pay 2279 for theirs. I will try to negotiate for my stone + 2100 cash out the door for their stone. I see most 1ct has the average width of 6.35mm and this 0.81ct has 6.02mm x 5.99, so I dont think it''s too noticable on a setting. They showed me the Leos but most of them have alot of inclusions that I could see with naked eyes and color only H, I with a beefy price tag.

I wish I have more cash for one of the high end 1ct Solasfera from Good Old Gold or the ACA from whiteflash

Does the ideal grade that GIA gives comparable to those 2 cuts I mentioned above?

On the contrary, not that i look at it; I might consider keeping your original diamond for a pendant or something else to keep it special, and spend that 3500 on possibly something like:

I think the difference between this diamond and a ''1 ct'' is about .40 mm. Your call :)
Ditto. And a stone like this from WF would be upgradeable down the road.

This is a definite option...

There is no Ideal GIA grade, their highest cut grade is Excellent. It can be confusing though as often some diamonds are referred to as Ideal when they have GIA reports, be cautious as this term is no guarantee of a well cut diamond.
