Hi there,

Tryin to figure out what sort of setting my girlfriend would like best for the 1.5 carat diamond I bought her.

My girlfriend really likes simple settings and loves the clean lines of a channel set especially. However, what we''re wondering is would this Whiteflash setting be hard to keep clean? I have heard that rounds in channel settings are very hard to keep clean because dirt and gunk gets in the ''channel'' and accumulates. And there is no real way to get it out.

I don''t want the diamonds to get cloudy or her to be unhappy with it after a couple of years.

Thanks for the input.

Welcome!

Just giving you a bump so maybe those with channel set diamonds will chime in and advise.

Welcome to PS! I don''t have experience with channel settings, although I do think they are beautiful! I have noticed, however, several threads on these forums from people who are hooked on their ultrasonic jewelry cleaners. IF you do a search, you will find lots of into.

I'm sorry...I dont have a channel set so I cant comment on that. I did want to mention have you
considered doing a 3/4 round setting. I just worry that if her finger size changes (babies, etc.) that
this ring that you posted will be hard to resize. I dont know if that is an issue for you. In the past
8 years I've had 2 babies (my weight is up about 5 lbs - which I'm ok with) and had to have my
ering sized upward. I have also heard other people lose lots of weight and didnt have to have there
rings resized but...its nice to have the option.

BTW - you do know that that setting is not a channel setting correct?
Edit (again) - I guess I should have said its not a true channel setting...
whiteflash defines it as a 'Channel Bead Set'...I would have said it
was bead set since that is the way the diamonds or held in. (honestly
I do like the bead set more than the channel set but that is a matter
of personal choice).

I was 16 when I got my very first diamonds - a simple channel set band....oh the joy!

I wore that thing everywhere and cleaned it like there was no tomorrow. Sadly, I somehow thought I could also wear it while painting my bedroom red

I spilled red paint on my ring and thinking all would be fine just continued to paint my room. When cleaning time came there was a bit of red paint stuck somewhere under the diamond. I tired everything I could to get that red paint out, and even took it to the jewelry store where they cleaned it like mad. So now, seven years later, I have a beautiful channel set band with one red colored diamond

As long as she keeps it clean and doesn''t paint with it on

I think you''ll be fine. The other posters do have a very good point about sizing. And, even if that ring can be sized it wouldn''t be by much as the integrity of the ring would become compromised.

I have channel setting on both my e-ring and my wedding band.

It''s easy to keep them looking nice - soft baby toothbrush with a bit of dishsoap every night, plonk the rings in a small pot with warm water/ammonia based jewellery cleaner/dish-soap and leave overnight. Once a week stick them through an ultrasound machine.

If I had all diamonds I would use the US everyday - I''m more wary as I have a coloured stone.
