Hi!
I am very very new to this site....and I was looking for something online that I could get good advice from to help me make some decisions. Everyone looks so nice and helpful...and I must admit I am nervous about doing forums for some reason...maybe because I have never done it before and I may come off as so stupid. Well, My bf has now given me the go ahead on picking out a ring and just handing him the info and letting him do the rest. I think I have some ideas in my head of what I want, but I don''t know if I have really ever seen "the one." I know for sure that I want an emerald cut...maybe somewhere around 1 carat give or take. I don''t want to break the bank...but I know that I want something that looks good because it will be with me forever. I do not want gold. I really like it mostly simple...but not too simple. I really like thin Pave settings (I think that is what it is called...please forgive me....I really do not know much). Maybe a halo around the diamond?? Anyway...I want to find something so I can get him started, I just have no idea where to begin. When I go to the stores, they never have much of a selection on emerald cuts....and I don''t know if I am at the right kind of store (trustworthy). They are also so pushy. I live right in the middle of Tampa and Orlando, so if anyone knows of a good place to go near there. Any pictures or suggestions would be great:) I really hope to meet some nice people to help a person who knows nothing about diamonds.
I found this ring...and this is the closest I have come to finding something that is close to the ideas in my head. Now...this ring is HUGE....and it just shows some of the things I love like the way the sides split into two....it gives more to just a plain band. Is this called pave? Or is there something else that is more like diamond chips clustered together. Also...one more question...I like the way the diamonds go all the way around. Is that bad??? So many people have told me that it is not good because they can chip or something...would they? Were they just telling me that because they didn''t carry those in the store? Ok...enough for now...I know I wrote a book here....I hope someone can help guide me!! Thanks:)

Welcome, Ashley!

I would not want stones all the way around the shank because then the ring could not be sized. So I''d always leave an area plain to allow for sizing in the future.

The style you like is one we see in rings made by Leon Mege and Maytal Hannah. Do you know what his budget is?

Anyway, what I would do is to look at Leon and Maytal''s sites and see if either makes a ring similar to what you want. Then contact them to get an estimate on the setting for the size stone you expect to find. I''d probably check with Good Old Gold or WhiteFlash to find the emerald cut stone.

Here''s an example or two:

Once you pick out a stone, then send it to Maytal or Leon.

Here is an example of a Maytal Hannah ring posted on this site:

Her site is not coming up for me at the moment, but she does have a gorgeous emerald cut ring on her site. www.maytalhannah.com

Leon''s site is: http://www.artofplatinum.com/

Hi again!
Thanks for your responses. I am starting to change my mind just a little....a friend of mine has a ring that is very simple, but I just can''t get it out of my head as something I would like. I saw Kate Beckinsale''s ring in a previous thread here and that is something that I think I would like. I really like the thinness of the bands. I was always concerned about the bands not sitting flush with each other because of my choice of stone (EC).....but that''s ok right?? Ok...so I was asked about his budget. I am sure that he would do whatever I asked...but it will def. take him longer the more expensive I went and I just would feel bad about it. I really don''t want to say because I don''t know what price range is normal for what I am after. So how about a pave style setting that does something similar to the previous pic I posted (splits into two on the sides)....but looks like the pic below a little more. Does that make sense?? About how much would u think a ring like that would cost(center stone being around 1 carat or a little less?). I know nothing about the C''s....so what is the lowest in those I should ever go? Thanks Guys!! :)

Hi Ashley,

With an emerald cut, these can show inclusions and colour more readily than a round diamond for example. So I would look at GIA graded D- G colour even H possibly, but see if you can compare some similar shape, size and lab graded colour EC's to see what you prefer. Clarity, VVS or VS clarity, it is very rare to find an eyeclean SI with step cuts, so I would stick with VS or better, also make sure you let the vendor know your comfort level concerning ' eyecleanliness' with VS.

Thank you...I appreciate your help:) Like I said before, I am really clueless!!!
