I don''t have a photo but will give you what specs I can off my GIA report. I really don''t know much about diamonds. I will be celebrating my 20th Anniv. in Dec. DH and I wanted to upgrade my old wedding ring with something new and wow... I wish I knew about this website before but found it after my purchase.

Stone spec''s:
Cushion Modified Brilliant

6.99 X 6.72 X 4.78

2.02 carats
S12 (very eye clean)

polish- good
symmetry-good
flourescence- medium blue (clouds not shown)

the top of the stone (table?) measures 63%
depth is 71.1%

girdle- thick to extremely thick

no cutlet

we paid $14,500. for the stone

I picked out a halo setting from precision fit and also a band. While I love the ring, I just doubt if the ring has a 2 ct. presence.

Please give me your honest opinions please...I''m freaking out.

Hi Von and welcome!

If you have been reading you probably know it isn't really possible to judge a cushion without detailed images, are you happy with this diamond? The diameter or spread on cushions can vary depending on various factors and physical depth doesn't always indicate face up size, also due to this variance a cushion might not face up similarly to a 2ct round for example, but more important to me is the beauty of the diamond. Are you considering returning this stone?

I am happy, I think it is very scintillating and has a lot of brilliance. Sometimes I think the stone looks big but then other times it looks small...? I just want to get my money''s worth and hope I made a good purchase...I need to stop obsessing maybe.

If you aren't sure ( and this can happen with a purchase of this magnitude), maybe take a look at some more cushions and if you are within a return policy and want to exchange the diamond, you can do so. Or that will let you see you do in fact have a very lovely diamond and that you did well! As to it looking small some times and larger at others, thats normal I believe!

Are you even able to return it? If not, then--especially if you love it--just enjoy it!

In that case I would definitely look at some more cushions or other shapes just to satisfy yourself you picked the right diamond, or to let you know you didn't, at least that way you will know for sure. Have you looked online at all? www.goodoldgold.com have beautiful old mine cushions which are extremely popular.

www.briangavindiamonds.com have their new signature modern cushion so it could be worth looking at these vendors.

Although many people say that a stone can't be judged by the numbers (and cushions are notoriously difficult), but I believe that the numbers give a reasonable idea of how well cut the stone happens to be.

I'm happy to be wrong (and I'm certainly controversial) but here's my take:

That stone would not get past any of my "screening" numbers.

I don't like large tables - 59% maximum.
Why? - because large tables kill the fire of a stone.

I think that depths greater than 68% (for a cushion) are generally too deep (maybe a little deeper for distinctly elongated stones).
Why? Too deep result in excessive darkness in the middle of the stone due to light escaping out of the bottom sides.

I definitely won't buy any diamond with "extreme" mentioned in the girdle thickness.
Why? Lots of hidden weight, or a dangerously thin edge that's prone to chipping. Also possible "painting and digging" that could mess up the light performance.

I also won't buy with less than "very good" polish.
Why? I regard it as the cutter taking time, care and pride in their workmanship.

Now, I'm sure that a few people on here will come along and say that they have a stunner with 70% table or 75% depth - and that's quite possible - but I'd expect most of the diamonds on the market with those kind of numbers to be mediocre performers.
But at least I have explained why certain features would bother me.
