Please give me your opinion of this round diamond. My priorities are carat and cut grade, and price of course. I do not have access to the gia report at the moment. Thanks!

Carat weight: 1.30
Cut: Ideal
Color: I
Clarity: SI2
Depth %: 61.9%
Table %: 56%
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Very good
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.00 x 6.97 x 4.32 mm
Price: $5300

We need the crown and pavilion angle before we can analyze anything about it for you unfortunately...and GIA doesn't use the term "ideal" so you'll want to find out who is using that term.

Ditto. But it looks good so far!

Not sure of the crown and pavillion or even the GIA cut grade yet. I''m almost certain the cut grade will be "excellent" though. I will post more info as soon as I receive it. Thanks for the feedback so far!

I bought a GIA "excellent" cut diamond without first knowing what the crown and paviion angles were. Make sure you don''t make that same mistake! I ended up having mine recut when I realized it was not "excellent" at all. Get the angles and run it through the HCA to be sure! The GIA is WAAAAY too lenient on their cut grading.

Update...I received the GIA report.

Cut grade is "excellent".

Eye clean according to vendor.

Crown: 35
Pavillion: 40.8

After plugging into HCA I got:
Light return - excellent
Fire - excellent
Scintillation - excellent
Spread - very good

Total visual performance - 1.6 excellent within TIC range.

So I think these results are a reason to be excited but I''m not sure. What I''ve read is that HCA is a tool to reject a diamond not a tool to select one. So, I''m assuming this diamond would be a keeper. Please advise.

Also, I think I''m getting caught up in carat size. I''ve convinced myself that I need a 1.3. Should I possibly go with a nicer 1.25? Is there a visible size difference? Will a better 1.25 actually appear larger than this 1.3? Thanks guys!

This diamond has a very good chance of being a good performer, but it''s always great to see an idealscope image to confirm if possible. But you are right, anything under 2 is good and means your diamond is likely to be a looker!

And the difference in size between a 1.25-1.3 is pretty miniscule...

Thanks neatfreak. The diamond is on hold for me until Friday so I have some time to decide. There''s a 30 day return policy so I have plenty of time to get the appraisal.

Anyone else have opinions on this diamond?

It could be a lovely stone, but an Idealscope would be very useful if you could get one. You are right that the HCA is an elimination tool and not to be used for selection. An appraisal would also be very useful and as you say 30 days is plenty of time to obtain one.
