I''m sorry if someone has posted this already (I did a quick search and didn''t see anything). Sports Chalet, which has locations in CA, NV, AZ and UT are accepting donations of gently used men''s, women''s and children''s shoes at their locations until Friday, Jan. 29th. All the shoes collected will be sent to Soles 4 Souls to be distributed to the Haitian people. Please check out Sports Chalet''s website, www.sportschalet.com for more info.

I don''t mean to be rude, but I''ve read that these sorts of clothing/shoes drives are not as helpful to the victims of natural disaster as is money, and may serve to tax already strained resources in the affected country (i.e., where to store the donations; how to distribute them). Especially in the early stages of the disaster.

I don''t think you''re being rude. I agree with your comment that money is needed. I just suggested it as an additional way to help, especially given that these are tough economic times and this may be a way for someone who cannot afford to give money but would like to somehow pitch in.

It''s my understanding that money/water source/medicine/rescue equipment is especially important (to the exclusion of everything else) in the first couple of weeks, and then items like shoes for the survivors become increasingly important after that. Haiti is probably beginning to enter that second phase (helping the survivors) right about now.

Panda, thanks for posting the info about Sports Chalet.

Thanks for not taking my comments the wrong way, Panda. And you''re right, if people can''t afford to send money, it''s great to know there are other ways to help.
