Would anyone please be kind enough to comment on this diamond? I'm wanting to set it in platinum with a pave shoulder.
The diamond is a round 2.61 I SI1 Excellant Cut.

The GIA certificate number is 5196122502

Any advice would very much be appreciated as I really need to salvage something from this disappointing experience so far...

Many Thanks

The crown is cut a little higher than you'd like, and it is hiding some weight in the excessive depth. The plot is clean for an SI1 meaning that feather must be somewhat significant to drop it down to an SI1. Still, as an SI1 I doubt it is a big durability risk. Sounds like you are unhappy. If so, is a return an option?

Your diamond scores a 1.5 on the HCA scale, but it is a bit deep. It will look smaller than other diamonds of similar carat weight. If you've purchased the diamond and not interested in returning it, what are you looking for in a setting and we can help you out. Modern? Vintage? Solitaire?

2.61 ct's is huge!
Would personally like some Florescence in an I stone
SI1 looks very clean. The feather could be a durability issue. Need to investigate that.
Crown angle is to high. Needs to be < or = to 35
Check the hca tool as well. :read:

What's the letdown? That plot looks way too clean for an SI1, is the stone cloudy?

I'm getting 3.7 on the HCA and it is on the very edge of GIA excellent. If you want to stay at that size and color and get an ideal cut it will cost more. You'd have to go down in color or size to get ideal cut at the same price point.

Thank you for your reply. I haven't purchased the diamond yet.
My fiancé and I mert with a jeweller who made my ex-wives ring....
The jeweller was very unprofessional and spoke at length about my previous engagement....
It made my fiancé uncomfortable and upset!! And now I need to salvage the experience by surprising her!!
It was definitely not my smartest move!!!
My budget is around $20,000 so I thought this was good bang for my buck!!
Can you suggest anything more suitable??

It was your jeweller's dumb move, not yours. You went to someone you knew and had a good experience with. He lacked the insight and discretion and ultimately the foresight to see that speaking about a previous relationship would cause upset and lose him a sale. I can see why it made your fiancée uncomfortable but it really was your jeweller speaking out of turn, not your fault.

Stevie, you will get excellent advice here and will end up with something truly wonderful. You have a great budget to work with and it's good that you didn't buy that diamond!
You can feel confident buying online if that's what you chose to do after conversing with people on Pricescope. You will certainly get a much better deal with the well-know vendors here. I speak from experience.
Remember that an excellent ideal cut will get you the most bang for your buck.
[You probably already knew that, but I had to say... : ) ].

Re: Please comment on this diamond, I have been let down maj

Some will comment on the diamond for you, let me comment on the jeweler. If he did what you say he did.......find another jeweler. If you use him for your ring, and your fiancé asks where you got it, I don't think she will be a happy camper. Best of luck.

Re: Please comment on this diamond, I have been let down maj

Definitely the worlds dumbest jeweler. I cannot believe he did that. I'd leave bad reviews for him online!

That is not a good diamond. I can't search now, but I promise we will help you find an outstanding stone.

If you want to search some, these numbers will help you.

Table: 54-58

Depth: 60-62.3

Crown angle: 34-35.0

Pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

Here are some vendors that supply photos of the stone (don't buy a diamond blind): Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, James Allen, B2C Jewels (on some stones)

Re: Please comment on this diamond, I have been let down maj

Another guy in my position. Man how come no one at the jewelers or anyone I ever speak to mentioned the darn angles to me?!?! Sounds like the most important aspect off the bat

Anyway That SI1 is ridiculously clean looking geez, but yes according to HCA it's almost a 4.0

Goodluck my friend

Re: Please comment on this diamond, I have been let down maj

Hello there,

There are good people on this forum who will point you in the right direction. The kind advice of people here opened my eyes to a less than ideal situation when hubby and I were e-ring shopping. The vendors mentioned earlier are fantastic. After doing some research, we got our stone from Good Old Gold. Their professionalism, patience and transparency was impressive. But, you really can't go wrong with the others either.

I am so sorry for your experience with this other jeweler. Please don't feel locked in to work with that person. I love my ering and part of the reason is that we worked with some great people (Larry from Van Craeynest and GOG) to create something special. We felt treated with respect so there were no regrets about the process. I think everyone deserves that

Good luck.

Re: Please comment on this diamond, I have been let down maj

Crappy experience for both of you. :-( Find another vendor, there are plenty to go around. Although, my 1st choice would be to contact one here. And one that might be more in line with your budget.

$20,000 is very low for an I , SI-1 H&A specs. However, it isn't too low to get a gorgeous rock. Are you set on the 2.6 size? Will a smaller one that has all the bells n whistles numbers be more in line with what you want? How low will you go down on colour for the size you want? Some things to consider. If the $20k budget was firm & you want size, look for a spready stone. You need to look at the angles too & the HCA will help with that.

First group the remaining C's in the order of importance to you. Cut should always be #1. ;)

All the best... =)
