Good luck with the new stone AJ - it looks to be a winner!! Maybe between the two of us we can encourage a greater appreciation of Antique diamonds to Australia![]()

Hey, I just noticed and old thread of yours - did you ever find a appraiser?
I have a couple of names to consider, but it means I have to go to Melbourne, something which I don't get to do as often as I would like.
And I have to confess I've had an unpleasant experience with a local jeweller that has put me off the whole experience just a bit. I foolishly took it to a place I've used previously for other stuff as I had noticed they were advertising insurance appraisals.
Well... When I explained to the sales person I had an antique diamond I wanted appraised she asked to see it so I handed it over, only for her to scrutinize it with a look of extreme distaste before telling me 'it has a black mark in the centre' I politely explained that it was the culet she was looking at. To which this lovely woman replied 'Well you are right it is a cushion cut, but it's not an antique, it's just a poorly cut diamond.'![]()
I was speechless. I can understand that not every salesperson can be expected to know about the differences between modern and antique cuts, but I really did not see why she felt the need to insult my diamond.
I know I really do need to get around to organising an appraisal, but that experience kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

It certainly appears to be what I''m after in an OEC, as you know I''ve been after a lovely OEC for some time. It has good specs and a return policy too..
I would maybe prefer one of the amazing cushions that Erica Grace sell, but alas that is not in my financial cards at this time !

Well, I am sorry to get everyone excited, but it appears that overnight quite a few people lost their minds...last time I checked, the listing was up to $2500 US with about an hour to go - and I will remind everyone, we''re talking about a 0.68ct stone here!
Pretty as it is, I don''t know who''s wacky enough to pay 2.5k for a 0.68ct daimond! I have a feeling someone may have a lil bit of buyers remorse soon...oh well, thats ebay I guess!
So, I''m definately ouuta the race - thankyou Dee and Lauren for popping in..Dee, you know that name suits Lozza..
And especially a big thankyou to LGK and Grace.
Grace, you are a true sweetheart and professional, thankyou for your wise advice.![]()
Thanks Lauren - you''re right, I had forgotten about your guy, I will contact him again. The first time he didn''t really have anything suitable..Date: 11/3/2008 8:01:20 PM

Awwww, AJ - I''m sorry you got stuck in the middle of bidding hell! I think someone is crazy bidding it that high! That''s nuts!
Keep an eye on KingKongCrowder, who I got my stone from. He''s had a couple go by recently that were pretty, although not OEC, but he could keep an eye out for you.
Good luck, dear! I want you to find your OEC soon!

That is a crazy price! Better that you didn''t get into the bidding war over it.
