Good luck with the new stone AJ - it looks to be a winner!! Maybe between the two of us we can encourage a greater appreciation of Antique diamonds to Australia

Hey, I just noticed and old thread of yours - did you ever find a appraiser?

Lol, get me to go off on my favorite subject (antique anything, but especially jewelry) and I''ll definitely bend your ear!

Yeah, it doesn''t show the crown height much in that pic, but it does look like a nice pattern on it. Very promising looking! And it looks super white.

Even with no #s from a seller- and a lot of the time you don''t get them- an in person eyeball evaluation is really the kicker anyway, numbers only go so far with helping you evaluate an old cut... that is, not that far! More like, you can tell some are definitely *not* going to be worth considering, is all. Basically, if you can just return it if it isn''t gorgeous in person, that''s what I do when I buy OECs off eBay... just buy and return if it''s not-so-purty. This one really does have a lovely pattern to it, and looks like the table and culet are similar in proportion to my 1.22 N colored OEC.

If you get it you''ll definitely have to show us some more pics

I have a couple of names to consider, but it means I have to go to Melbourne, something which I don''t get to do as often as I would like.

And I have to confess I''ve had an unpleasant experience with a local jeweller that has put me off the whole experience just a bit. I foolishly took it to a place I''ve used previously for other stuff as I had noticed they were advertising insurance appraisals.

Well... When I explained to the sales person I had an antique diamond I wanted appraised she asked to see it so I handed it over, only for her to scrutinize it with a look of extreme distaste before telling me "it has a black mark in the centre" I politely explained that it was the culet she was looking at. To which this lovely woman replied "Well you are right it is a cushion cut, but it''s not an antique, it''s just a poorly cut diamond."
23.gif

I was speechless. I can understand that not every salesperson can be expected to know about the differences between modern and antique cuts, but I really did not see why she felt the need to insult my diamond.

I know I really do need to get around to organising an appraisal, but that experience kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

side view which you posted is what I would have asked for.
looks like a nice high crown.

SA's here just don't seem to know how to behave properly unless they are sucking your behind in order to make a sale - personally, if you would like to keep going there, I'd mention it to her manager - but thats just me. I can't stand for rude service..

I used this resource to find my appraiser, and have been very happy with her services - maybe there will be something close to you?
Anyways, you don't want to use an appraiser connected to a retailer..

http://www.gem.org.au/

I posted another link the other day, will try to find it for you..

Yes, I hereby christen your aussie name as Lozza , ok ?!

It certainly appears to be what I''m after in an OEC, as you know I''ve been after a lovely OEC for some time. It has good specs and a return policy too..
I would maybe prefer one of the amazing cushions that Erica Grace sell, but alas that is not in my financial cards at this time !

hehehe it is :), I really need to work on mine they look terrible.

AJ, Wow, I''ve been watching that auction because I was curious to see the outcome! I certainly hope you can get it for a steal! It looks like a fantastic pattern, and now after reading LGK''s posts, I feel like I know a little more about my own .67 ct. OEC!

I''ll keep everything crossed for you, love!

Hiya AJ,

Just wanted to let you know that I responded to the message you sent me via our site

.

Do you have the dimensions on this little guy?

*threadjack* Softly, I think you need a new avatar, don''t ya think?

Well, I am sorry to get everyone excited, but it appears that overnight quite a few people lost their minds...last time I checked, the listing was up to $2500 US with about an hour to go - and I will remind everyone, we''re talking about a 0.68ct stone here!
Pretty as it is, I don''t know who''s wacky enough to pay 2.5k for a 0.68ct daimond! I have a feeling someone may have a lil bit of buyers remorse soon...oh well, thats ebay I guess!

So, I''m definately ouuta the race - thankyou Dee and Lauren for popping in..Dee, you know that name suits Lozza..

And especially a big thankyou to LGK and Grace.

Grace, you are a true sweetheart and professional, thankyou for your wise advice.

Ohhh, sorry. But - the next one you find (get) will be even better. :)

Awwww, AJ - I''m sorry you got stuck in the middle of bidding hell! I think someone is crazy bidding it that high! That''s nuts!

Keep an eye on KingKongCrowder, who I got my stone from. He''s had a couple go by recently that were pretty, although not OEC, but he could keep an eye out for you.

Good luck, dear! I want you to find your OEC soon!

Thanks Lauren - you''re right, I had forgotten about your guy, I will contact him again. The first time he didn''t really have anything suitable..

I know if you ask me thats a silly price to pay for that stone - you could do alot better, oh well, not my problemo!

And thankyou too Sonoma!

Glad you are not heartbroken, AJ. Somewhere out there is a nice, juicy OEC with your name on it - I promise

That is a crazy price! Better that you didn''t get into the bidding war over it.

Sorry to hear that A.J. Stick with Grace, I''m sure she''ll come up with the goods for you eventually.
